Itinerary

1. Day 1: Acclimatizing Day

   • Arrive in Huaraz and meet your official trekking guide. Give the day fully to acclimatization.

   Stay overnight.

2. Day 2: Huaraz (3100masl) – Canrey Chico (3350masl) – Sacracancha (4200masl)

   • Have a refreshing breakfast in Huaraz, pick up from your hotel and transfer to the trailhead of Canrey Chico (3350m), which is about 30km south of Huaraz. 

   • Meet the donkey drivers and donkeys’ horses, upload the trekking equipment and start hiking along the Rio Negro valley to the east side directly to the east and white mountains. 

   • Ascend to the campsite Sacracancha (5-6 hrs) as you go up the valley to the nicest landscapes.

   • Set up the tents. 

   Overnight at around 4090 masl.

3. Day 3: Sacracancha – Yanashallash Pass (4800masl) – Shonkoruri (4200masl)

   • Enjoy Andean breakfast at the campsite and start hiking for a pasture area of highlands.

   • Hike up to the highest point of the trail at Punta Yanashallash 4800m (5-6 hrs).

   • Walk down along the zig-zag trail stone-paved of Pre-Inca Trail, conserved in its natural position as the Pre-Incas built this trail with stones. It is the entrance to the sacred capital Chavin.

   • Arrive at the campsite at Shongo 4088m.

   Dinner and overnight.

4. Day 4: Shonko Ruri (4200masl) – Chavin (3090masl) – Huaraz

   • Enjoy a wonderful sunrise at the campsite. The Trek starts after an energetic breakfast and passes through several small Quechua villages before arriving at Chavin de Huantar 3090m. 

   • Arrive around midday at Chavin and immediately visit the huge Chavin Pre-Inca ruins complex with your Peru tour guide. 

   • Visit the museum located a little outside of Chavin to the north side.

   • Have lunch in Chavin.

   • Spend the night in a basic hotel in Chavin or return to Huaraz late in the afternoon.
