Description
Embark on a day trip from Huaraz to explore the millennia-old archaeological site of Chavin de Huantar. This tour travels through scenic mountain ranges and quaint villages, stopping at the Querococha Lake for breathtaking photo opportunities. You will also visit the highest pass of Tunel de Cahuish before reaching Chavin, where a guided tour unveils the mysteries of the ancient ruins and the Lanzon stone carving.

Chavín de Huantar Excursion
Have breakfast at the hotel and meet your Chavín de Huántar tour guide.
Depart at 8 am from the private bus station for tours First Class Huaraz led to the millenarian capital of archaeology of Chavin de Huantar. You will be transported in an air-conditioned touristic transport.
Start driving south side of Huaraz, passing by typical villages of Recuay (3300masl).
Cross the Santa river to the left side of the typical villages of Huacapampa, continue by eucalyptus trees passing the sheepherders villages, join the paved highway, and drive along the highlands full of pastures and straws, by a small valley.
Visit the Querococha lake at (3980masl), and stop for photos of the beautiful landscape.
Continue up to the highest pass of Tunel de Cahuish at (4500masl), an important point for the hydrographical division.
Proceed by the narrow valley in a zig-zag way, getting to the Rio Mosna by the flanks of the river, arriving at the Archaeological site of Chavin. The ruins are located next to the modern district of Chavin.
Arrive at 1 pm and immediately head to a restaurant for a refreshing lunch until 2 pm.
Enter the castle of Chavin on a guided tour which takes place for about two hours. Visit many labyrinth rooms and in one of the main buildings are the Lanzon the Chavin, a big stone carved remain of the Pre-Inkas.
Finalize the tour in the modern museum which is a storage for the rest of the Chavin Culture.
Depart for a non-stop drive back to Huaraz at 4 pm for about 3 hours, arriving around 7 pm directly to the bus station in Huaraz.
