Itinerary
-
Day 1: Huaraz - Transfer to the Llaca Valley; Hike to Moraine Camp (4,900 m)
- Morning: Depart from Huaraz in private transport, heading toward the Llaca Valley (3,850 meters). The journey takes about 1.5 to 2 hours, providing some time to relax and take in the changing scenery.
- Afternoon Hike: Once in Llaca Valley, we begin our ascent toward Moraine Camp (4,900 meters). This part of the trek is relatively steep and will take approximately 2-3 hours. The goal is to move at a slow and steady pace to avoid fatigue and to adjust to the altitude in preparation for the summit attempt the following day.
- Overnight: You’ll spend the night camping at Moraine Camp, where you can rest and acclimatize for the summit push. The area provides beautiful views of the surrounding mountains and gives you a chance to prepare mentally and physically.
- Meals: Enjoy a hearty dinner provided by the guides to refuel for the following day. Overnight camping with all necessary gear and support will be arranged.
-
Day 2: Moraine Camp - Nevado Vallunaraju Summit (5,686 m) - Moraine Camp - Return to Huaraz
- Early Morning Start: We begin our summit day around 2-3 a.m. to take advantage of early morning conditions and reach the summit by 8 a.m. The ascent begins with a steep climb over the moraine and glacier. As you progress, the views of Huascarán, Chopicalqui, and the surrounding peaks become even more impressive.
- Summit Push: The final section of the climb will require the use of crampons and ice axes. The summit of Nevado Vallunaraju sits at 5,686 meters (18,658 feet), offering breathtaking panoramic views of the Cordillera Blanca.
- Descent: After taking in the summit views, we descend back to Moraine Camp to rest and pack up. The return journey is typically faster, but still requires attention, especially on the glacier sections.
- Transfer to Huaraz: After packing up, we head back to Llaca Valley, where a bus is waiting to transfer us back to Huaraz. You’ll arrive in the late afternoon or early evening, feeling accomplished and ready to relax after an exciting and challenging adventure.
