Meet your tour guide in the morning. He/she will pick you up from Christchurch Hotel.
Drive to Springfield Railway Station in the foothills of Southern Alps.
Board a TranzAlpine train. This train journeys besides the Waimakariri River up to Arthurs Pass National Park where you will be amazed by the spectacular Alpine scenery.
Get off in Arthurs Pass National Park.
Drive up to the Otira Gorge through the Mountain Beech forest (which is covered with thick lichens and moss). You might get to see the native parrot species called Kea. Enjoy the view of crystal clear water flowing down the huge boulder-strewn streams.
Begin the hike in the National Park along with photography and bird watching in the pleasant Alpine landscape.
In the scenic location, enjoy homemade picnic lunch prepared by the tour guide for you.
Drive back to Christchurch, passing through different landscapes including Alpine scenery, lakes, limestone formations, and river valleys, quite different from the ones seen during the train journey.
