Kathmandu Sightseeing Tour
- At 8:30 am, our private vehicle will pick you up from your hotel.
- The first stop is Swyambhunath, also known as Monkey Temple. It’s a 15 to 20-minute drive, as there is very little traffic in the mornings.
- 9:00-10:00 am Swyambhu: You can see a dome with an eye representing the earth and the meditating eye of Buddha, which is half open if you see it thoroughly. You could also see above that dome some 13-tiered tower-like structure representing the 13 stages of Nirvana. It offers a panoramic view of Kathmandu, where the stupa stands for peace and harmony. There are many sculptures and Hindu temples on Buddhist sites, which you can find only in Nepal.
- After strolling through Swyambhu and looking at a few sculptures, we will proceed to check out the small market, which offers a variety of thangka, wooden sculptures, and Buddhist beads used to make ornaments.
- 10:00 am drive off Bashantapur/Patan Durbar Square: 45 minutes drive to Patan or Bashantapur.
- Patan Durbar/Bashantapur: At this time, you’ve got to choose one among the Durbar Square, and we recommend Patan Durbar as Bashantapur is still under construction. Even though both are rich with their own culture, arts, and architecture and have similar cultures to offer, both places are filled with beautiful wood carvings and a variety of shrine idols made with stone, copper, bronze, etc. The place has local flavorful Newari cuisine that cannot be missed during the visit. One could experience a local traditional alcoholic beverage termed Ayala (distilled beverage) and chang (rice beer).
- 12:45pm Pashupatinath temple: A renowned Hindu temple dedicated to lord Shiva, where only Hindus can visit the temple premises, and non-Hindus can see the temple from the available terrace east across the Bagmati river. Leather goods are not allowed to be taken inside temple premises. You could also see cremation in Hindu tradition. After strolling around for a while, we proceed to the next destination.
- 1:45 pm: Drive off to Boudhanath stupa with lunch at Boudha
- After lunch, we will wander around the Boudhanath stupa, which has stood as a symbol of Buddhist faith for hundreds of years as a huge mandala of tranquillity and enormous eyes. Boudha has undoubtedly been Kathmandu’s cultural centre as it is a sacred place for Buddhist pilgrimage places for Tibetans.
- Just outside the back door, you will find the lively Phulbari Street, which is lively and has many markets where you can shop for items like thangka paintings and wooden masks, as well as lots of Buddhist ornaments and beads.
- Drop off at the hotel.
