Itinerary
-
Sandakan tour
- Get picked up by a car or coach and transfer to the Sepilok Orang-Utan Rehabilitation Centre, where orphaned and injured Orangutans are brought to be rehabilitated and learn to fend for themselves to go back in the wild. Sepilok is a primary lowland forest, a fine showcase of Borneo’s remaining rainforest. The highlight is witnessing the feeding of Orangutans from a platform in the center of their forest enclosure.
- See a scheduled 25-minute documentary video for an overview of the orangutans.
- Continue by visiting Sabah’s first Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre (BSBCC) next to the Sepilok Rehabilitation Centre. Get a closer look at the world’s most miniature bear from the observation platform.
- After lunch, proceed to Labuk Bay Proboscis Monkey Sanctuary, situated in the centre of the mangrove forest on about 400 acres, along with the coastal land near Samawang Village.
- Head to one of the platforms to view Proboscis Monkeys in reasonable proximity. You may also be lucky and have a chance to see Silver Leaf Langurs, Pig-Tailed Macaques, Oriental Pied Hornbills and Kingfishers.
- Proceed to a city tour and explore the various landmarks of Sandakan with your Sandakan tour guide, such as:
- St. Michael Church.
Sandakan Heritage Museum.
Central Market (most amazing variety of fresh seafood and agricultural products).
Sim-Sim Water Village (houses built close to the water surface, offering a fascinating sea view).
Puh Jih Syh Buddhist Temple is situated on the hilltop of Tanah Merah and offers a panoramic view of Sandakan Bay.
Agnes Keith House, where the books Land Below the Wind and White Man Returns were written. Today the house is a heritage museum providing an exciting insight into life during the British colonial period in North Borneo.
- Finish the tour at about 1700 hrs and return to your hotel or Sandakan Airport.
- This marks the end of service.
