Itinerary
-
Kinnabalu - Monsopiad Village - Kota Kinabalu City Mosque - Sabah Museum
Meet your Kinabalu tour guide from your hotel in KK City Center and proceed to the Penampang river along with the many traditional buildings.
Arrive at the Monsopiad village and visit the Tangkob or Grainery where the padi is housed. Kotos Di Monsopiad, or Monsopiad's Main House, is dedicated to the life and times of Monsopiad and his descendants. On display are ceramic jars, padi grinders, bamboo items, and the costume of Bobohizan Inai Bianti, a direct descendant of Monsopiad and very senior high priestess.
Explore other exciting exhibits like the massive monolith, which invokes a dozen legends, the traditional restaurant, and of course, Siou Do Mohoing, or the House of Skulls, where all 42 'trophies' of Monsopiad hang from the rafters.
Have lunch and continue your journey. Stop first at the Wisma Tun Mustapha (Sabah Foundation Building), a circular tower of steel that stands 30-storeys high and is one of the city's most important icons.
Visit the University of Sabah, one of Malaysia's top universities, with your local tour guide to learn about the various schools, faculties, and research that this university contributes to.
Head to the Kota Kinabalu City Mosque and admire this exemplary model of Islamic architecture. Built right on the site of the Likas Bay, this gorgeous and dramatic structure looks like it is floating right on the artificial lagoon.
Visit the great Sabah Museum with your guide and learn about Sabah's history. Gaze into different exhibits that display various archaeological, historical, art, zoological and other collections.
Before heading back to your hotel, make a brief stop at Signal Hill, where you will be greeted with a beautiful bird's eye view of the city skyline and nearby islands. Time permitting, your guide will stop at a local handicraft market for you to peruse unique local handmade works of art.
