Itinerary
-
Explore the History and Culture of Melaka
- Meet the guide at Melaka to start the tour.
- Begin by visiting the Dutch square “Red House” (The Stadhuys, Christ Church, Victoria fountain, and the clock tower).
- Walk up to St. Paul’s Hill to see 16th-century St. Paul’s Church and overlook the Straits of Malacca, the old city and the ship known as Flora de Lamar, and the 17th-century Dutch tombstones.
- Head to the 15th-century Portuguese Porta de Santiago (A Famosa, the only remaining structure of the Portuguese Fortaleza that was not destroyed by the British).
- Experience a point-to-point traditional trishaw ride (2 passengers per trishaw).
- Continue to explore the Melaka Sultanate Palace Museum, constructed between 1984 and 1986, a modern reimagining of the Royal Palace (Istana) in the 15th century. It is supposed to recreate the Istana of the Malacca Sultan Mansur Shah, a structure built in 1465 and destroyed in 1511 by attacking Portuguese forces. The whole building is raised from the ground by a series of wooden pillars. No nails were used in the construction of the palace; instead, the wood was ingeniously carved to fit together in the traditional manner.
- Other visits included harmony street, where houses of worship representing various religions are lined up along an axis, Kampung Kling Mosque, Sri Poyattha Vinayagar Moorthy Hindu temple, and Cheng Hoon Teng, the oldest Chinese temple in Malaysia.
- Go for the Melaka river walk and stroll through the antique row shops at Jonker Street.
