Mezcal Tour from Oaxaca
- Get picked up from your downtown Oaxaca accommodation by our fully equipped SUV. It takes the better part of an hour to arrive at the mezcal villages. Usually, we begin with one or two clay pot (ancestral) palenques in the first village, then spend the rest of the day visiting distilleries employing copper alembics.
- At each stop, meet the Palenqueros and view whatever stage of production each is at. The objective is to illustrate all stages of production as they are actually happening. Each village after the first is roughly 15 minutes away from the last.
- Lunch at a typical roadside eatery is relatively late in the day, so we recommend a hearty breakfast. However, we bring along bottled water and salty snacks to tide you over and to reasonably ensure that you do not become overly inebriated as best we can. Drinking, of course, is optional.
- For those attending with a friend or family member who is more interested in Oaxacan crafts, we can reduce the mezcal stops to include specified villages working with wood, clay, cotton and wool; these hand-picked artisans produce handicrafts featuring agave/mezcal motifs.
