I have been researching mezcal, agave and Oaxacan distillers (palenqueros) in the state of Oaxaca since 1991, and began offering mezcal educational excursions about a decade ago.To my credit I have produced the only, full-color bilingual mezcal tasting wheel, and am the author of the third edition of my book, Mezcal in the Global Spirits Market: Unrivalled Complexity, Innumerable Nuances.I hold an M.A.in social anthropology and a JD.I now dedicate all of my working days to teaching both novices and aficionados such as industry professionals about the culture of mezcal and Mexican fernented drinks such as pulque and tejate.I am licensed by three branches of the Mexican federal government.I also help entrepreneurs wanting to start their own brands, and work with both professional photographers and documentary film makers. The objective of a typical day tour is to illustrate as many stages of mezcal production as they are happening, with nothing pre-planned for tourists. This is the real deal, getting out of the city into the villages where ancestral and artesanal mezcal is produced, for village residents, for bars, restaurants and mezcalerias throughout Mexico, and for my clients.Email me for my comprehensive CV.
