Itinerary

1. Day 1- Marrakech – Tahnaout – Asni – Imi Oughlad Village

   • Early morning departure from Marrakech for a pleasant drive south.

   • Wind your way up through the Moulay Brahim gorge and upper valleys to arrive at the higher foothills of the western High Atlas mountains. The trail heads to Imi Oughlad (1450m) with the Jbel Toubkal at 4167 m- the highest peak in North Africa looming in the vicinity.

   • Meet up with the Berber muleteer crew.

   • Set off for a two-hour long acclimatization hike to the Tiz n'Tachete (2000 m).

   • Look back down on the Imlil valley and Ait Oussaden valley.

   • Carry on for another half hour to Imil-n-lfri and enjoy a picnic lunch. 

   • Keep hiking for about two and half hours southwest, down along a dirt track to Assif-n-ait Oussaden.

   • Finally, reach the red clay terraced village of Tiziana (1,750 m). 

2. Day 2- Tizane Village - Tizi N'taghrhourte pass-D'knt Valley

   • After breakfast, begin the hike up along the Assif -n-ait Oussaden valley.

   • Pass through the walnut groves, up to Tizi-n-taghrhourte (1,995 m) and through to a rare, almost flat stretch to arrive at Assaka spring. 

   • Have another field picnic.

   • The afternoon hike will take you down along the edges of the forest until you reach the Berber village of D'knt (1,870 m).

   Have dinner and stay overnight. 

3. Day 3- D'knt Valley (1,870 m) - Tizi n'Tagdalte Pass - Tizi Oussem Village

   • Begin the morning with a 3-hour long hike up through groves of walnut trees, corn, and barley fields. Meet shepherds, women and children carrying dried herbs.

   • Traverse the Tizi-n-tagdalte to the descent amongst the juniper trees till you stop for the picnic again.

   • Walk to the village of Tizi Oussem (1,850 m), then up to the summer village of Tamsoult.

   Sleep under the sky at the camp. 

4. Day 4- Tizi Oussem Village -Tizi Mzik pass - Imlil Valley - Marrakech

   • The final trek will be to a small waterfall at Azib Tamsoult.

   • Return to cross the Tizi Mzik pass (2,479 m).

   • Join the central Toubkal valley at the Aroumd village (1,900 m), and have lunch before driving to Marrakech from Imlil valley.
