Itinerary

1. Day 1: Marrakech - Tahenouet - Asni - Imlil - Toubkal Refuge

   • Meet your tour guide upon arrival and start early morning from Marrakech.
   • Head towards the high Atlas Mountains via Tahnaouet (local market on Tuesdays), Valley Ghighaya, Moulay Brahim gorges, Asni (market on Saturdays) and then between terraced fields of vegetables, fruit trees (walnuts & cherries).
   • Arrive at Imlil at 1740m and meet the trekking team for your Mount Toubkal summit: Moroccan guide, muleteer.
   • Trek between fields and surrounding villages of Imlil along the Ait Mizane Valley, Taouerirte, Targa Imola, and Tagadirte.
   • Armed at 1900m, head into the shrine of Sidi Chamharouch.
   • Have lunch next to the river at 2500m and continue to climb steadily to the Toubkal refuge at 3207m through snaking and zigzagging mule tracks. 

   Overnight at the refuge. 

   Approx. 5h30 walking.

2. Day 2: Refuge - Toubkal Summit - Refuge - Imlil - Marrakech

   • Get an early start to catch the sunrise from the summit of Mount Toubkal, passing by the river into the south circle above the refuge.
   • Climb through an avalanche of boulders rocks (it’s a challenging walk rather than a climb) and then straightforward between giant rocks where the altitude will make steps very difficult in a few parts.
   • Reach the plateau from where you can enjoy the first lights of the sunset on the surrounding peaks above 4000m.
   • Go on a short walk to the summit with panoramic views on each mountainside.
   • Find yourselves on the top of North Africa after 3 hours of walking, a beautiful view in every direction (to the north, the plain of Marrakech and the northern valleys, lake villages, to the south Anti Atlas & Sahara). The time spent at the top will depend on the weather, and thirty minutes will be enough.
   • Descend the same way to the refuge, which takes 2 hours with lunch/rest.
   • Do a 3 hour and 30 min of walking down to Imlil while retracing your steps.
   • Head back to Marrakech.
