Description
Get a chance to stroll through the ancient temple ruins of Siem Reap. Built in the early 12th century, Angkor is one of the few UNESCO World Heritage listed sites and Cambodia's most valuable monument; Absolutely breathtaking, to say the least.
Itinerary
-
Day 1: Arrival in Siem Reap
Meet driver at the Siem Reap International Airport for transfer to hotel for check-in and lunch.
Head to the archeological site of Angkor Wat, visiting the South Gate of Angkor Thom, Bayon Temple, the Royal Enclosure, Phimeanakas, the Terrace of the Elephants, and the Terrace of the Leper King.
Finish the day with a transfer back to the hotel; relax or head out into town for a good meal (dinner is not included).
-
Day 2: Angkor sunrise, temples, and village
Start with early morning pickup at hotel, then head to the main gate of the Angkor temples for sunrise view.
Arguably the largest religious building in the world, Angkor has a volume of stone equivalent to the Cheops pyramid in Egypt.
Head back to the hotel for breakfast, then return to the Angkor temples to see temples that were not covered during the previous day's tour.
Pause for lunch at a local restaurant, before a 45-minute trip beyond the Angkor complex to see Banteay Srei and Banteay Samre, a pair of exquisite temples that are far less crowded than the main Angkor sites.
Find fine carvings in pink sandstone, and what some consider to be the most beautiful and best-preserved work in Cambodia.
Stop at a village to learn about rice farming, see sugar palms, and try a cool coconut drink (depending on the season, best period is between October and April).
Spend rest of the day in Siem Reap at leisure before going for dinner.
-
Day 3: Tonle Sap Lake, Ta Prohm temple, and departure
Meet driver at hotel, then travel to Tonle Sap Lake for a sailing adventure. During the rainy season from mid-May to early October, the level of Mekong river rises, transforming Tonle Sap Lake into a sprawling body of water.
See a floating fishing village and learn about life on the lake, where everything happens on the water, from schooling to agriculture.
Post lunch at local restaurant, visit the ultra-romantic Ta Prohm temple, a 12th-century shrine that's surrounded by thick jungle.
Visit to Ta Prohm, transfer back to Siem Reap International Airport for departure.
