Angkor Wat
- Take a short ride to the Angkor Wat temple complex.
- Explore the Pre Rup Temple, which was built by King Rajendravarman II in the 10th century. The temples name translates to “turn the body”, and it is believed that funerals were held at the temple.
- Make your way to East Mebon Temple. This temple is built on a small artificial island in the middle of the Eastern Baray and was only accessible by boat during the Khmer Empire. The lake has since dried up, and the temple is now accessible by foot.
- Continue to reach the Ta Som Temple. It is the smallest temple in the Angkor complex consisting of just a single tower monument surrounded by 3 walls.
- After lunch, head to Neak Pean Temple. This temple is also built on an artificial island in the middle of Jayatataka Baray. The name of the temple means “The Entwined Serpents” and was originally built for medical purposes. It is widely believed that bathing in the pools that surround the temple can cure diseases and ailments.
- Finish this tour by visiting Preah Khan Temple. It was constructed on the site of king Jayavarman VII’s victory over the Chams who invaded in 1191, and the name means “The Holy City of Victory” or “Royal Sword”.
