Itinerary

1. Day 1- Arrival in Nairobi & Transfer to Masai Mara

   • On the first day, you'll arrive in Nairobi, Kenya's bustling capital, where you'll be met by your guide for a warm welcome and briefing on the exciting days ahead. 
   • After a short orientation, you'll begin your journey to the Masai Mara National Reserve, one of Africa's premier wildlife destinations, renowned for its vast landscapes and diverse wildlife.
   • The drive to Masai Mara takes approximately 5-6 hours, passing through scenic views of Kenya's Great Rift Valley, where you'll make a brief stop at a viewpoint to admire the breathtaking landscape and snap some photos.
   • Arrive at your lodge or camp in the Masai Mara in time for lunch, where you'll have a chance to relax, refresh, and enjoy the surroundings. 
   • In the late afternoon, head out for your first game drive in the Mara, where you’ll have the opportunity to spot some of the "Big Five" (lions, leopards, elephants, buffaloes, and rhinos) as well as other iconic wildlife like giraffes, zebras, and wildebeests.
   • As the sun sets over the Mara plains, return to your accommodation for dinner and an evening at leisure, surrounded by the sounds of the African wilderness. 
   • Enjoy a cozy night under the starlit sky, resting up for a full day of wildlife exploration tomorrow.

2. Day 2- Full Day in Masai Mara

   • Start your day early with a hearty breakfast before setting out for a full day of exploration in the Masai Mara National Reserve.
   • An early morning game drive offers a prime opportunity to witness the Mara's wildlife at its most active, with predators on the prowl and herbivores grazing in the golden morning light.
   • Spend the day traversing the iconic savannah landscapes in search of the Big Five—lion, elephant, buffalo, leopard, and rhino—as well as cheetahs, giraffes, and zebras. If you're visiting during the Great Migration season (July to October), you'll witness one of nature’s most spectacular events, as millions of wildebeests, zebras, and gazelles cross the Mara River in search of greener pastures.
   • Enjoy a picnic lunch out on the plains, surrounded by breathtaking scenery, or return to camp for a hot lunch, depending on your preference. 
   • In the afternoon, continue your game drive, exploring different parts of the reserve, including the Mara River, which is home to large populations of hippos and crocodiles.
   • In the evening, you may have the option of visiting a Masai village to experience the rich culture and traditions of the Maasai people, learning about their way of life and unique connection with the land and its wildlife (optional activity, depending on the tour package).
   • As dusk falls, head back to your camp or lodge, where you’ll enjoy dinner and time to relax around a campfire or lounge area.
   • Soak in the incredible sights and sounds of the African night, reflecting on the day's adventures in one of the world’s most magnificent wilderness areas.

3. Day 3- Masai Mara to Lake Nakuru National Park

   • On the morning of Day 3, enjoy a leisurely breakfast before bidding farewell to the Masai Mara as you set off for Lake Nakuru National Park. The drive takes around 5-6 hours, passing through the scenic countryside and giving you the chance to see Kenya's varied landscapes along the way. You’ll make a stop to stretch, grab some refreshments, and take in the views.
   • Arrive at Lake Nakuru in time for lunch at your lodge, which is ideally situated within or near the park. 
   • After a short rest, embark on an afternoon game drive to explore this unique park, famous for its vibrant birdlife and resident flamingos that give the lake a pink hue (although flamingo numbers vary seasonally). Lake Nakuru is also a sanctuary for endangered rhinos, and spotting both black and white rhinos here is a highlight.
   • Aside from the rhinos, Lake Nakuru is home to a variety of wildlife, including buffalos, Rothschild giraffes, waterbucks, and elusive leopards. 
   • The park's acacia woodlands and rocky escarpments create a unique habitat that contrasts with the open savannahs of the Mara, offering different scenic backdrops for wildlife photography.
   • As evening approaches, return to your lodge for dinner and relaxation. 
   • Enjoy the serene atmosphere of Lake Nakuru and reflect on the day’s sightings, looking forward to another day of adventure in Kenya's incredible landscapes. 
   • Rest up and prepare for tomorrow's journey into the highlands of Aberdare National Park.

4. Day 4- Lake Nakuru to Aberdare National Park

   • After an early breakfast, depart Lake Nakuru and set off toward Aberdare National Park, located in Kenya’s central highlands. The drive takes approximately 2-3 hours, passing through lush farmland and scenic hills as you approach the Aberdare Range.
   • Arrive at Aberdare in time for lunch at a lodge within the park, where you can relax and take in the stunning views of the surrounding forested mountains. 
   • Aberdare National Park is renowned for its thick forests, misty moorlands, waterfalls, and high-altitude wildlife, creating a unique contrast to the open plains of previous days.
   • In the afternoon, embark on a short game drive to explore the park’s lush forests and scenic terrain. Aberdare is home to rare species such as the bongo antelope and giant forest hog, as well as elephants, buffaloes, bushbucks, and a wide variety of bird species. 
   • Due to the dense vegetation, the game drive will be slower-paced, allowing you to appreciate the beauty of the forested landscape.
   • Later, head to one of Aberdare’s famous tree lodges, where the experience of wildlife viewing continues from an elevated vantage point. These lodges are designed to offer close, unobtrusive views of wildlife as animals gather around salt licks or waterholes. You can spot elephants, rhinos, and various antelopes visiting the waterhole, often right below your balcony.
   • Dinner is served at the lodge, and the evening is yours to relax and enjoy the serene, misty atmosphere of the Aberdare forests. 
   • Keep an eye out for nocturnal wildlife that may appear by the waterhole, providing an exciting end to the day in this unique highland paradise.

5. Day 5- Aberdare National Park to Samburu National Reserve

   • On the morning of Day 5, enjoy breakfast amidst the cool mountain air before departing Aberdare National Park. You’ll embark on a scenic drive northward to Samburu National Reserve, a journey of approximately 3-4 hours. 
   • As you travel, the landscape gradually shifts from lush highlands to the semi-arid plains of northern Kenya, showcasing the country’s remarkable geographical diversity.
   • Arrive in Samburu in time for lunch at your lodge or camp, set along the banks of the Ewaso Ng’iro River. This life-giving river attracts a rich variety of wildlife and is a focal point for the unique species that thrive in this arid environment. 
   • After a brief rest, set out for an afternoon game drive to discover the unique flora and fauna of Samburu.
   • Samburu is known for the "Samburu Special Five," rare and endemic species that include the reticulated giraffe, Grevy’s zebra, Somali ostrich, Beisa oryx, and gerenuk (the long-necked antelope that often stands on two legs to reach high branches). You’ll also have the chance to spot lions, elephants, leopards, and a variety of bird species that inhabit this dry landscape.
   • As the sun begins to set, return to your lodge or camp for dinner, where you can unwind by the riverbank, watching as wildlife gathers around for an evening drink. 
   • Relax under the stars and soak up the unique ambiance of Samburu, where the dry wilderness meets the flowing waters of the Ewaso Ng’iro River.

6. Day 6- Full Day in Samburu National Reserve

   • Begin your day with an early breakfast before heading out for a full-day game drive in the striking landscape of Samburu National Reserve. The semi-arid terrain, dotted with acacia trees and rugged hills, provides a dramatic setting for wildlife viewing.
   • Spend the morning exploring along the Ewaso Ng’iro River, where wildlife is often found drinking and resting under the shade.
   • Samburu’s iconic "Special Five" are a highlight, offering unique photography opportunities, especially the reticulated giraffe with its distinct pattern and the rare Grevy's zebra. Samburu’s open landscapes also make it a great place to spot big cats like lions and leopards.
   • Around midday, pause for a picnic lunch in a scenic spot within the reserve or return to camp for a hot lunch, depending on your preference. Afterward, you can relax and enjoy the lodge’s amenities before resuming your afternoon game drive.
   • In the afternoon, continue exploring the reserve, perhaps focusing on some of Samburu’s birdlife. Samburu is home to over 350 bird species, including the striking Somali ostrich and vulturine guinea fowl. 
   • For a unique experience, you may also encounter the gerenuk, often called the "giraffe antelope" for its unusual feeding habits, as it stands on two legs to reach higher vegetation.
   • As the sun sets, return to your lodge for a final dinner and evening in Samburu. 
   • Relax around the campfire, reminiscing about the day’s adventures, and soak in the atmosphere of the Kenyan wilderness under a canopy of stars. 
   • Rest up for your journey back to Nairobi on the final day.

7. Day 7- Samburu National Reserve to Nairobi

   • On your final day, start with an early breakfast and take in the last views of Samburu's rugged landscape. 
   • After checking out, begin the journey back to Nairobi, a drive of approximately 5-6 hours through Kenya’s beautiful countryside.
   • Enjoy the changing scenery as you travel south, reflecting on the incredible diversity you’ve experienced over the past week—from the lush highlands of Aberdare to the savannas of the Mara and the arid plains of Samburu.
   • Upon arrival in Nairobi, you’ll have the option of a leisurely lunch at a local restaurant (or a packed lunch en route) before concluding your safari. 
   • Depending on your departure plans, you may have time to explore Nairobi’s attractions, such as the Karen Blixen Museum, the Giraffe Centre, or a local market for souvenirs. 
   • Your guide will assist with any last-minute arrangements and ensure a smooth transfer to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport or your preferred drop-off location.
   • As you say farewell to Kenya, you’ll leave with unforgettable memories of diverse landscapes, thrilling wildlife encounters, and the warmth of Kenyan hospitality.
