Itinerary

Day 1 : Drive from Nairobi to Masai Mara Game Reserve
- You will be picked from your hotel in Nairobi or at the airport by your private safari guide and drive to Masai Mara Game Reserve.
- You will arrive in time for lunch and check in at your Safari hotel.
- After a short rest, you will embark of the afternoon game drive in Masai Mara Game Reserve.
- Later before dust, you will return to the hotel for dinner and overnight.
Day 2 : Experience a day of adventure in Masai Mara Game Reserve
- On this day, you will depart from the hotel after breakfast for a full day closer to nature with game drives in Masai Mara Game reserve with picnic lunch in the wild.
- The park is famous for the 'Big Five'. the Maasai People and the Wildebeest Migration, when thousands of wildebeest, zebra, and Thomson's gazelle travel to and from the Serengeti, from July through October. In the Mara River, throngs of hippos and crocodiles lurk.
- The park is also known for providing excellent predator sightings (check Big Cat Diary on BBC), thanks to its relatively large populations of Big Five: Lion, Leopard, African Elephant, & Rhino plus many other flora & fauna.
- Later in the afternoon you will return to the hotel to relax and enjoy the facilities at the hotel.
- Dinner and overnight at the hotel.
Day 3 : Morning flight from Masai Mara to Diani Beach
- After breakfast you will check out of the camp and be transferred to the airstrip for your flight from Masai Mara to Diani Airstrip.
- On arrival, you will be transferred to your hotel for check in and lunch.
- You will spend the rest of the day at leisure. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.
Day 4 - Day 6 : Enjoy the quiet white sandy beach
- You have three whole days at leisure to enjoy the quite beach or engage in various water sports available at the hotel and charged at an extra cost or layback and enjoy a sun turn on your sun bed or enjoy a swim on the sea or at the different swimming pools in the resort or pumper yourself at the spa which offers different treatments which attract an extra cost. Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner and overnight at the resort.
Day 7 : Transfer to Mombasa Airport
- Breakfast at the Resort and after check out, you will be transferred to Mombasa International Airport for your departure flight.

How to get a Kenyan Visa (Referred to Electronic Travel Authorization eTA)

We wish to advise that Visa application can only be done online on the official government website and obtained prior to travel to Kenya: https://www.etakenya.go.ke/en

Tourists and business visitors must get an eTA whether they are traveling to Kenya by air, sea, or land.

Passport – Must be valid for a minimum of 6 months from the trip’s return date.

Local Flights

Kindly take note of the baggage allowance of the local flights within Kenya. Most of the flights will require that you pack your bags in softbags /duffle bags and have a baggage weight restriction between 15kg – 20kg per person depending on the airline or the destination. However, please note that extra baggage can be bought at check in. For local flights, check-in is normally 1hrs prior to departure time. However, kindly adhere to the advised timings by your guide.

Weather in Kenya

Kenya is similar to Tanzania in terms of having both rainy and dry seasons, but the time of year varies.

Kenya's long rainy season come from April through to mid-June, with the short rainy season in November and December.

A cool season stretches from June through October, and is typically drier and cooler than the other months. Temperatures range from 50F to 82F at this time of year.

Lastly, a dry season of hotter weather comes from December to March. Days peak at around 86F during the dry season.

Safety

Despite the Kenya Safari being a staple of world tourism since the Victorian age, some people still worry about their safety when visiting different countries in Africa. Our National Parks and Game Reserves are generally safe. However, please do not leave your valuables unattended and make use of the safes provided in your hotel rooms.

Medication and Health

Visitors on special medication should carry ample supplies enough for the duration they are on safari.

Yellow Fever Certificate is necessary for all travelers above the age of 9months.

Malaria prophylactics are recommended and we advise that you consult your physician for advice and prescription. To protect yourself from mosquitoes in the evening, apply the mosquito repellant to all exposed areas of your body and wear light colored trousers and shirts.

Kindly note that Yellow Fever vaccination has ALWAYS been recommended for people travelling to Kenya since Kenya is endemic for yellow fever. Hence, vaccination is the primary means for prevention and control of yellow fever. Other Vector control measures recommends avoidance of mosquito bites including the use of repellents which we recommend guests to bring on their trip and insecticide treated mosquito nets which are provided in the hotels and lodges depending on their location (mosquitoes are not found in high altitude areas such as Aberdares) . The highest risk for transmission of yellow fever virus is during the day and early evening hence it is recommended to wear long sleeve shirts especially in the evenings.

What To Bring

What to Pack for Your Safari

Packing for your first safari can be a bit daunting. What do you bring? What don’t you need? Below you’ll find our recommended list of things to bring along with you when you’re on safari.

A backpack

While there is plenty of room in our safari vehicles for your larger suitcase, it's always handy to have a more manageable bag that you can have with you in the vehicle.

A warm sweater or light fleece

Nights and mornings in East Africa can be cold, so it's always good to have something a little warmer to throw on until the sun warms the plains.

Walking shoes or boots

Much of your safari takes place within your safari vehicle, but you'll need a comfortable pair of shoes or hiking boots for walking to your lodges, snapping photos from the picnic spot, or if you've added any walking safaris to your itinerary. Even in the car, you'll want a pair of comfortable shoes that cover your skin to prevent against sunburn and insect bites.

A long sleeve dress shirt and trousers

Perfect for both sun protection and to ward off mosquitoes, a long sleeve shirt and trousers are also a good option for a cold morning or evening.

Neutral colors are ideal, hats, sunglasses, and sunscreen are also a GREAT idea.

Sunglasses

The sun in East Africa can be quite intense, so sunglasses are a good protective measure and have the benefit of reducing glare while you are game-viewing.

Earwear – because of the dust, contact lenses are uncomfortable during game drives.

Hat

Sun protection should be a priority while you're on safari. While your vehicle provides shade, having the top up for game-viewing means you'll be exposed to the elements.

A good hat is a great way to avoid nasty burns or heatstroke.

Sunscreen and lip balm

Another valuable precaution against the often-harsh equatorial sun, sunscreen and lip balm will protect you where your clothes don't.

Camera

It goes without saying that you're going to want a camera for your safari adventure. While in some cases your smart phone will be enough to snap a shot, a camera with a good zoom lens is the perfect companion.

Binoculars

Our Safari vehicles come standard with a single pair of binoculars that you can share with your driver, but having your own pair is a good way to ensure you don't miss a second of the action. You don't need an expensive pair. Even a travel-sized pair of binoculars is sufficient for game-viewing.

Batteries and/or charger for your camera, phones & other electronic gadgets

You don't want to be midway through a day on safari and suddenly run out of battery for your camera. Classic Explorers vehicles come standard with in-car charging stations, but it's always a good idea to travel with an additional battery. Additional SD cards are also a good idea to ensure you don't need to stop to delete photos. Many hotels have WIFI. Kindly bring with you a travelling adapter and kindly note for Kenya the associated plug type is G, which is the plug that has three rectangular pins in a triangular pattern. Kenya operates on a 240V supply voltage and 50Hz

A good book

You'll rarely find yourself without something to see while on safari, but there is going to be some downtime. Whether it's the drive to or from the airport or just a lazy night at your lodge, having a good book (or a Kindle) on hand is a great way to pass the time.

Currency:

Make sure to have cash on you. There are different stores and stalls that you will/can stop at on your way to the hotels, you’ll want to buy some souvenirs, and there will be drinks and such to

Buy. The currency in Kenya is the Kenyan Shilling, with USD and Euros also commonly accepted. Bank notes are in denominations of 50, 100, 200, 500 and 1000 and for coins are in denominations of 1, 5, 10, 20, and 40. Currency can be exchanged at most large banks or bureau de change.

When using USD in Kenya check the series date to make sure they are printed after the year 2006. ATMs are common especially in major tourist destinations. Mastercard and Visa Credit Cards are widely accepted; American Express and Diners Club less so. Major hotels accept payment by credit card, as do major restaurants.

Very few banks or foreign exchange bureaus accept traveller’s cheques; when they do, they charge high commissions.

How Much Should You Tip Your Safari Guide?

Safari tipping etiquette for your guide is typically US$ 10 - US$ 20 per person per day. Tipping is at the discretion on the tourist based on the services offered!

You may be suggested to tip guards who show you around small areas of the park which is usually like $1-$5 depending on what they’re doing for you. Most hotels have a tipping box where a collective tip can be dropped for the hotel staff
