Itinerary
-
Explore the Highlights of Ravenna
- Meet the tour guide and visit the superb Basilica of St Vitale, one of Western Europe's most important examples of Byzantine art and architecture, with its green and gold glittering mosaics dating back to 535-549 AD. Very close to St Vitale, there is also the late Roman Galla Placidia's Mausoleum, actually the private chapel of this powerful Regent-Empress ruling the Western Roman Empire during 425-438 AD, coated with its hypnotic deep blue mosaics.
- Pay tribute to the great Dante Alighieri, the worldwide known author of the Divine Comedy, visiting his Tomb. He died in Ravenna in 1321.
- See the St Francis Church, with its flooded script.
- Explore the beautiful Piazza del Popolo, Ravenna'main square, and after that, we will head for St Apollinare Nuovo's Church, erected during the Kingdom of the Ostrogoths(493-510 AD). You will just love its stunning mosaics dating back to the same age, showing Jesus Christ "enthroned" as a Roman emperor.
- End the tour.
