Tour of Ravenna
- Connect with your tour guide at the Basilica of San Vitale to start the program.
- Admire the unique Early-Christian and Byzantine mosaics at the Basilica of S. Vitale (half VI century) and its beautiful panels showing the Emperor Justinian with his fascinating wife, Theodora.
- Then, head to the Mausoleum of Galla Placidia (beginning of V century), a powerful building commissioned by the Roman Empress of the Western Roman Empire. On entering, you will be impressed by the magnificence of the decorations and mosaic scenes and especially by the unreal atmosphere in which you find yourself.
- The next stop is Neoniano Baptistery (beginning of V century), the catholic baptistery that is equally decorated by beautiful mosaics, stuccos and inlays of polychrome marbles.
- Afterwards, go to Basilica of Sant'Apollinare Nuovo, the Ostrogoths' private chapel. King Theoderic showed the unforgettable processions of the virgins and martyrs dating back to the Byzantine period.
- Later, proceed to the Tomb of the poet Dante Alighieri, the father of the Italian language and the author of the Divine Comedy, which represents his masterpiece.
- Lastly, visit the Archiepiscopal Museum housing the famous 6th century ivory throne and the mosaic of the Virgin in a praying position, the Chapel of Saint Andrew showing Christ warrior (end of V and beginning of VI century), the King Theodoric's Arian Baptistery (early 6th century) ancient building from the Ostrogoth time.
