Itinerary
-
Visit Siena
- Start the tour from the famous Siena Cathedral dedicated to the Assumption of the Virgin. The remarkable façade is made in white, red, and dark green marble, decorated with a great plastic cycle consisting of marble sculptures depicting Philosophers, Prophets, and Sibyls, today replaced by copies. The Cathedral houses numerous artworks from different periods, such as the statues carved by Michelangelo, Donatello, and the great Roman Baroque sculptor Gian Lorenzo Bernini.
- Continue walking through the Eagle Contrada (district), and arrive at a hidden fountain, called Fonte del Casato, probably unknown to many Sienese.
- The Orto dei Tolomei, a place that remains unknown to many who come to visit Siena, an enchanting park of olive trees with a breathtaking view of the San Martino district. On the one hand, you will see the most important monuments such as the Cathedral, the Torre del Mangia, the bell towers of the churches, and the typical medieval brick roofs. On the other hand, see the sinuous hills with different green, brown colours that characterise the province of Siena.
- Head towards the Wave Contrada, see its fountain.
- Reach Piazza del Mercato, walk along a characteristic street with a spectacular panorama on the Torre del Mangia.
- From Piazza del Mercato enjoy another beautiful view of the Basilica of Santa Maria dei Servi, the Basilica of Sant'Agostino and the park Orto de' Pecci.
- Reach the opposite side of Piazza del Campo, the main square of Siena. This part of the city is less visited by tourists who stop only in the Piazza del Campo and do not go beyond.
- The visit will have a final stop, Piazza del Campo; the guide will explain the Palazzo Pubblico, where the Government of the Nine met to make decisions, today is the palace, the seat of the town hall and the Civic Museum.
