1. Roman castles / Римские замки

   • Roman Castles  -  by car - 4 hours 

   Many people view this tour as enogastronomic one and in part they are right. But what is much more important is that this area is closely connected with the history of Rome with it's foundation. That's why I recommend to include it into your program of visit of Rome.

   Not far from Rome, on the tops of the hills of volcanic origin, there are picturesque towns, formerly impregnable medieval castles. The castles have disappeared, but the area is still called "Roman Castles".

   In one of these towns, Castel Gandolfo, a summer residence of the Pope was created  in the XVII century and it is still serves it's purpose. The residence is located on the  high banks of Lake Albano with a  breathtaking panorama. Not far from here there is another lake - Lake Nemi with the Museum of the ships (can be visited on request - 1h; closed on Monday), created in the time of Mussolini after raising from  the bottom of the lake the roman ships of the Emperor Caligula.

   Both lakes are in the craters of extinct volcanoes. The soil in this area is rich with minerals and extremely fertile.

   On the steep banks of Lake Nemi, there is a town of Nemi wherein every bar and restaurant offers incredibly fragrant and delicious  berries: raspberries, strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, blueberries that are cultivated right here in the greenhouses by the banks of Lake Nemi.

   Roman Castles is also a well-known wine region. "Castelli Romani" wine brand is the pride of the Lazio  region. Another local gastronomic  pride is "porchetta" - a hot smoked pork.

   During the tour, you can try these local products (optional) or dine in one of the local panoramic restaurants.

   During our tour, you will see the abnormal zone. This place is easy to find thanks to the numerous plastic water bottles on the roadside. Why? You will find out during the tour.

     Многие считают этот тур эногастрономическим и частично правы. Но что гораздо важнее - это место тесно связано с историей Рима. Поэтому я рекомендую включить это в вашу программу посещения Рима.
     Недалеко от Рима, на вершинах холмов вулканического происхождения, находятся живописные города, некогда неприступные средневековые замки. Замки исчезли, но область все еще называется "Римские замки".
     В одном из этих городов, Кастель-Гандольфо, летняя резиденция Папы была создана в XVII веке и до сих пор служит своей цели. Резиденция расположена на высоком берегу озера Альбано с захватывающей дух панорамой. Недалеко отсюда находится еще одно озеро - озеро Неми с Музеем кораблей (можно посетить по запросу - 1 час; выходной понедельник), созданное во времена Муссолини после поднятия со дна озера римских кораблей Император Калигула.
     Оба озера находятся в кратерах потухших вулканов. Почва в этом районе богата минералами и чрезвычайно плодородна.
     На крутом берегу озера Неми есть город Неми, где в каждом баре и ресторане предлагают невероятно ароматные и вкусные ягоды: малину, клубнику, чернику, ежевику, чернику, которые выращивают прямо здесь, в теплицах на берегу озера Неми. ,
     Римские замки - это известный винодельческий регион. Винный бренд "Castelli Romani" является гордостью региона Лацио. Другой местной гастрономической гордостью является «поркетта» - свинина горячего копчения.
     Во время тура вы можете попробовать эти местные продукты (по желанию) или пообедать в одном из местных панорамных ресторанов.
