Description
Cava d'Ispica is one of the greatest naturalistic-archaeological sites of Sicily: a river valley of about 13 km that cuts through part of the south-eastern side of the island, passing through Modica, Ispica and Rosolini. The interest in the Cava lies not only in its very fascinating landscape aspect but also in its history and origins. Its particular aspect, its geolocation, type of rock and proximity to the sea have made this place one of the largest rocky settlements in Sicily, a destination for various peoples throughout history. In this ring route, you will hike through a panoramic path crossing the valley, visiting the main landmarks of the park, like the Calicantone Necropolis and the "Castello Sicano". Take a break in a stunning hut between the canyons to enjoy a quick lunch (must be arranged in advance). Everything here has been carved on the rocks for fifteen centuries, making this one of the most fascinating places in eastern Sicily.
