Description

Itinerary

Messina, the gate to Sicily
- Meet me at Piazza Municipio, just outside the port, where I'll introduce you to Messina's glorious past.
- Come around the imposing 18th century marble statue portraying the city as a young woman and enjoy the view over the straits with the golden statue marking the entrance to the harbour.
- Walk towards the Catalani Church and statue portraying Don Giovanni d'Austria
- Approach the Cathedral and admire the refined details on its great portal, then pay a visit to the Church and discover how the tsunami and even the bombs dropped in World War Two changed the building forever.
- Discover the details in the beautiful Renaissance fountain next to the Church.
- Stop at a local café/bakery for a snack.
- Enjoy the astronomical clock and its unique carousel.
- End of the tour in front of the Cathedral.
