8:00 PM Pick up from your hotel in Reykjavik (Approximate time; subject to change depending on the season)
Begin your evening with a comfortable pick-up from your hotel or designated meeting point in Reykjavik. As you settle into the tour vehicle, your expert guide will provide you with an introduction to the Northern Lights, explaining the science behind this spectacular natural phenomenon and setting the stage for the adventure ahead.
Travel to Optimal Viewing Locations: 8:30 PM - 9:00 PM (Varies depending on conditions)
Your journey takes you away from the city’s light pollution, heading towards rural areas where cloud cover and light activity forecasts dictate your exact destination. The goal is to find the perfect spot where the skies are clear and free from artificial lighting, maximizing your chances of spotting the elusive aurora.
Along the way, you’ll pass through Iceland’s stunning landscapes, including vast plains, rugged mountains, and serene fields, making the ride itself a memorable part of the tour.
Northern Lights Viewing & Photography: 9:00 PM - 10:30 PM (Duration varies depending on conditions)
Upon arrival at the viewing location, the wait begins! While the Northern Lights are never guaranteed, your guide will help you make the most of the experience by keeping an eye on the sky for any signs of activity. If the aurora appears, you’ll have the chance to witness its breathtaking colors dance across the night sky.
The intensity of the lights can vary, and some nights the aurora may appear faint or barely visible to the naked eye. However, don’t worry—your guide will often have a camera ready to capture the lights at their best, and they'll happily share those incredible photos with you to remember your adventure.
Return to Reykjavik: 11:00 PM - 12:00 AM (Approximate time)
After a few hours of potential Northern Lights viewing, you’ll return to Reykjavik, your guide dropping you off at your hotel or the designated meeting point. While sightings can never be guaranteed, the experience of chasing the Northern Lights in such a spectacular setting is sure to leave you with lasting memories of Iceland's natural wonders.
Important Notes:
- The Northern Lights are a natural phenomenon, and sightings are subject to weather conditions and solar activity.
- Cloud cover and light pollution can impact visibility, so your guide will adapt the route based on forecasts for the best chance of a sighting.
- If the lights are faint or not visible, your guide will provide insights and share stunning photos taken with their camera.
- Dress warmly and prepare for cold temperatures as the best viewing often takes place in the open air.
