Visit the grand site of Red Fort, built by Shah Jahan in 1648. Mughals used the Delhi Red Fort as their residence, and it was the most influential political centre. The Red Fort houses museums that display royal items and portraits and has beautiful gardens.
Admire the commemorative tower of the Qutab Minar, built by Allauddin Khilji in the 13th century. Look closely as it towers 5 levels, each clearly distinguished by a projecting balcony.
Head to Humayun's Tomb on Mathura Road. Built in the mid-16th century by Haji Begum, wife of the second Mughal Emperor, the tomb displays Mughal's characteristics of high arches and double domes. It is considered the forerunner of the Taj Mahal.
Witness the flower-like Lotus Temple, also known as the Bahai Temple, completed in 1986 and notable for its extraordinary 27 free-standing marble-clad "petals."
