Dharamsala is a unique town on the edge of the Himalayas and is the gateway to some of India’s best outdoor activities. It is located in the upper reaches of the Kangra Valley, is surrounded by dense coniferous forest consisting mainly of stately Deodar cedar trees and has the Dhauladhur Mountains as a backdrop. The surrounds are still relatively untouched and have many surrounding local villages which still live in traditional ways. The villagers plant crops, twice a year, rice and wheat and live simply, eat what they grow from their fields and kitchen gardens. Dharamsala is accessible by bus from Delhi and other parts of Himachal, by air from Delhi (2 services a day), by road – approximately 9 hours from Delhi and 5 hours from Chandigarh. The closest station by rail is Pathankot which is 100kms away and is easily accessible with a taxi pickup service or by bus. The area has a large amount of accommodation in upper Dharamsala (McLeod Ganj) from budget hotels through to high range hotels or we can offer you a glimpse into Village life through one of our homestays that we offer. If you want to get back to nature and sleep under the stars, one of our fixed camping sites has your name on it. Sample some of this rich culture and heritage by taking a peek into the lives of these villages through our Village Walks and Treks. The magnificence of the Himalayas will reward you with stunning views whilst enjoying your holiday.
