Itinerary
-
Day 1: Airport - Kumai - Tanjung Harapan - Nypah Habitat
Upon arrival in Pangkalan Bun, you’ll be met and transferred to Kumai for boarding to the Kelotok.
Leaving Kumai River, you’ll have an opportunity to see riverfront life. Borneo has so many rivers so the boat is the main transportation here.
May you also see a thousand high buildings hotel with tiny holes, such as semi-wild swift poultry to harvest its nest.
Then, cruise to Sekonyer River, the estuarine habitat with unique vegetation called mangrove, before your first stop at Tanjung Harapan Camp to watch Orangutan feeding at 15.00 o’clock.
Watch along with the river bands for wildlife such as Proboscis Monkey-the endemic monkey in Borneo, Long-tailed Macaque, Red-leaf Monkey, Silvered Langur, or birdlife along the riverside.
After watching Orangutan, then cruising downstream for watching groups of Proboscis monkey- the endemic primate in Borneo.
Looking for a good place to angle boat and sleep overnight in the Kelotok beneath fireflies. If the weather good (no rain, no wind) we can see a million fireflies like a Christmas tree, but we can't guarantee this. We will try to do our best effort and find out the best place.
Dinner beneath fireflies. Meals Provided B L D
-
Day 2: Nypah Habitat - Camp Leakey - Sekonyer Kanan
After a sunrise breakfast, cruising up the river.
You’ll have time to relax, enjoying the fresh air, or do some primate spotting in the roosting tree while the boat finds out a good place to tie up.
Next destination is Camp Leakey, the legendary Orangutan Rehabilitation Camp, where Prof. Birute MF. Galdikas starting her study in early 1971.
Boating a side creek through tea-colored water where you will see the magnificent reflection from the vegetation along the river, when lucky with you, the freshwater crocodile and other wildlife attraction could find a long river band.
After having lunch and departing in Camp Leakey, we can spend the rest of the day hiking through the Borneo rainforest, exploring peat swamp forest, lowland dipterocarp habitat, searching wildlife, or enjoying varieties of fungi, orchid, slipper orchid, mosses, and ferns, then enjoying Orangutan feeding time at 2.00 pm.
Stay overnight on the boat. Meals Provided B L D
*Canoeing may provide on the second day before Visiting Camp Leakey.
*You have the choice to stay overnight in the black water river then having a night trekking in Pondok Ambung Research Station for nocturnal wildlife.
-
Day 3: Sekonyer Kanan - Pondok Tanggui - Sekonyer Village - Tanjung Harapan
After having breakfast, the boat will drive to Pondok Tanggui.
Orangutan feeding will be at 09.00 in the morning. This place is nice, even the orangutan does not attend the feeding platform sometimes in the fruit season, but this is excellent news for ecotourism.
It means orangutans prefer to have a natural food and can survive in the jungle.
After watching Orangutan, we will continue to Tanjung Harapan (first station) to see orangutan feeding at 15.00. The point is spotting wildlife during slow cruising between Pondok Tanggui – Tanjung Harapan. Sleep overnight in Pesalat.
Meals provided: BLD
Optional activities will be offered. You can choose what you like to do after visiting Orangutan Feeding Camp, such as:
* Have a 2 hours trekking in Pondok Tanggui, conducted after watching Orangutan Feeding
* Go to Sekonyer Village, walk around, and Canoeing into Sekonyer River and Village
