Description
This tour entails a visit to a baroque town of Varazdin, founded in the medeival times, some of the most interesting castles and a castle ground in this part of Europe. These are Trakoscan castle (the most representative castle in Croatia), Old Town castle in Varazdin (we will see it from outside), and Arboretum Opeka castle ground in Vinica.
All of those places hold a special significance and have lots of stories and legends. All of them are within a comfortable day tour from Zagreb. It is said that Zagorje region has the largest number of castles in Europe when considering the size of the region - around 50 of them!
The region is a beautiful lush green area, relaxing, with lots of trees and hills, but it's not just landscapes that are of value, but the way of life that has endowed this region with a rich culture and hospitable folks. It's one of the main producer part of Croatia for many hundreds of years!
Itinerary

Trakoscan, Vinica & Old Town Castle Tour
- The tour starts from where you stay in Zagreb (or anywhere else in Northern or Central Croatia).
- We first go to Trakoscan castle, the most representative castle in Croatia, at a lake in the beautiful and hilly Zagorje region. It belonged to a noble Draskovic family. The castle itself is from the 14th century, and it was renovated in the 19th century, which was one of the first renovation projects of such calibre in these regions.
- After that, we go to Vinica castle, built in the 19th century by the Bombelles family. Surrounding the castle is the Arboretum Opeka. The castle is a half-ruin now, but the entire place is enchanting.
- Visiting the town of Varazdin, where we will see its gorgeous historical part, with buildings that date back to the 17th and 18th centuries. We will pass by the iconic castle Erdody in the city center. The town is a truly special place that evokes wondering about the olden days and soon relaxes you at its pace.
We end this tour where we started in Zagreb.
