Itinerary
-
Day 1: Journey from Litochoro to Spilios Agapitos Refuge
- Our day typically commences at 09:30 in Litochoro's central square, where you will meet your guide (specific instructions on reaching the square will be provided). If you require assistance with transportation to/from Litochoro, please get in touch with us. Following a brief overview of the day's hike, we will head to the trailhead at Prionia (1100m), a 20-30 minute drive. Given the relaxed nature of our first day, we can adjust the morning appointment to suit your preferences.
- Upon reaching Prionia, we will park our car and prepare for the hike. Positioned at 1100m, Prionia marks the highest accessible point by car, situated 18 km from Litochoro. The route from Prionia to Spilios Agapitos Refuge (2100m) is a popular segment of the E4 European trail and represents the most frequented hiking path on Mount Olympus.
- Winding through a lush mix of pine, beech, and fir trees, most of the hike offers shelter from the sun. The well-maintained trail steadily ascends until we reach the Spilios Agapitos Refuge at 2100m, nestled on a natural flat surrounded by venerable Bosnian pine trees. Here, we will enjoy a meal and a restful night's sleep, preparing for the summit day that awaits us tomorrow.

Day 2: Adventure in the Heart of Olympus
- Our day starts early at 05:30 am with a delightful breakfast on the refuge's balcony, savouring tea or coffee while gazing directly at the towering Mytikas and the surrounding peaks. Commencing 6:30 am from the hut, our journey follows the renowned European E4 trail, leading us through the alpine zone and into a forestless landscape. This zigzagging and relatively steep trail, frequented by hikers bound for peaks or the Muses Plateau, offers a splendid view of the entire eastern region of Olympus.
- Approximately 2 to 2.5 hours into our adventure, we reach Skala Peak at 2866m, where a brief rest is accompanied by gearing up with helmets and climbing harnesses in preparation for summiting Mytikas. Having conquered the most challenging part in terms of physical ability with a climb of over +700m, we are rewarded with breathtaking views of Skolio Peak (2911m), Agios Antonios Peak (2815m), and the pinnacle, Mytikas (2918m).
- Embarking on the Kakoskala ridge, we navigate approximately 1 hour of partly technical yet easy scrambling to reach the summit of Mytikas at 2,918m—the highest peak in Greece. You will be securely attached to the guide's rope throughout the ascent, receiving guidance at every climb stage.
- Standing atop the summit, we take a moment to rest, capture photographs, and marvel at the incredible scenery and surrounding peaks. Following this awe-inspiring experience, we descend back to the refuge via the same route, anticipating an arrival around 12:00-12:30 pm (after approximately 5.5-6 hours).
- After a well-deserved rest and, perhaps, lunch at the refuge, we embark on our hike back to Prionia at 1:30 pm, aiming to reach our destination in approximately 2-3 hours. Returning to Prionia, we retrieve our car and drive back to Litochoro, concluding this legendary summiting of Mytikas—an unforgettable experience destined to remain in your memory forever.
