Itinerary

1. Day 1: Lomé Arrival

   • Meet your arriving flight at Lomé-Tokoin International Airport in Lomé. 
   • Travel to your hotel in an air-conditioned vehicle.
   • Refresh and relax. Neighborhood or Lomé city orientation as time permits.

   Overnight in a budget next to the beach in Lomé.

2. Day 2: Voodoo Market, Togoville, Ouidah

   • City tour of Lomé, including Independence Square and the Grand Marché. 
   • Visit the Akodessawa Fetish Market, the world's largest voodoo market. 
   • Visit Togoville on Lac Togo, original home to Haitian voodoo. Chief's house with throne.

3. Day 3: Benin Voodoo Culture, Fetish Market, Temple Snake, Sacred Forest

   • Day in Ouidah, birthplace of voodoo culture in Benin. Explore the unusual fetish market for animal parts, special medicines and charms. Visit the Temple of Snakes, the Sacred Forest, and the Point of No Return.

   Overnight in a mid-range hotel in Ouidah.

   • Visit the unique stilt village of Ganvie, home to 20,000 residents in a floating city. Travel by canoe through the market and other places to see this "Venice of Africa". Late afternoon arrival at Abomey, capital of the ancient Dahomey Kingdom.

4. Day 4: Ganvie Stilt Village, Dahomey Kingdom

   • Visit the unique stilt village of Ganvie, home to 20,000 residents in a floating city. Travel by canoe through the market and other places to see this "Venice of Africa". Late afternoon arrival at Abomey, capital of the ancient Dahomey Kingdom.

5. Day 5: Abomey, Dassa Zoumé, Kings Monuments, Natitingou

   • Visit to Musée Historique d'Abomey, once one of Africa's great palace compounds. Explore Animists sites in the 14th century kingdom of Dassa Zoumé, the "City of 41 Hills". 
   • Visit burial place of kings and unique homes built in and around the rock formations.

   Overnight at a mid-range hotel in Natitingou.

6. Day 6: Natitingou, Tata Somba, Art Museum, Shea Butter

   • Morning depart to the Tata Somba town, to see unique housing structures.
   • Visit to the Musée d'Arts et de Traditions Populaires de Natitingou. 
   • Continue visit some women producing Shea butter for cooking and cosmetic use.

   Overnight in a 3-star hotel in Sokodé

7. Day 7: Gorge Faile Aledgo, Akloa Waterfalls, Border Crossing to Volta Region

   • Morning depart passing through Gorge Faile Aledgo, via Sokodé towards Atakpamé. 
   • Visit the Akloa Waterfall through coffee and cocoa groves for some hiking.Late afternoon arrival in the Volta Region of Ghana. Refresh and relax for the day.

8. Day 8: Monkey Sanctuary, Wli Falls, Volta River

   • Depart for monkey sanctuary at Tafi Atome for fun with habituated Mona monkeys. 
   • Minutes hike through the Agumatsa Forest Reserve to Ghana's tallest falls. Continue to Volta River for a motorboat ride from Adomi bridge to Akosombo dam.

   Overnight at a budget chalet on the banks of the Volta River.  

9. Day 9: Traditional Craft Villages of the Ashanti Kingdom

   • Early depart on a scenic drive through the lush Eastern Region to the Ashanti Kingdom. 
   • Visit craft villages around Kumasi showcasing traditional crafts. Experience Kente weaving at Adanwomase, Adinkra stamping at Ntonso, carving at Ahwiaa.

10. Day 10: Slave Cemetery, Cape Coast Castle, Beach

    • Follow the slave trail to the coast, stopping at a former slave market and cemetery. Tour the World Heritage site and former slave dungeon of Cape Coast castle. 
    • Those of the Diaspora may have a "Door of Return" ceremony at the castle (extra fee).

11. Day 11: Kakum National Park, Crocodiles, Central Elmina, Culture Performance

    • Morning visit to the rain forest canopy walkway at Kakum National Park. 
    • Visit nearby crocodile ponds. 
    • Visit central Elmina to see the busy fishing lagoon. Take the grand walkway to hilltop Ft. San Jago. Special cultural performance.

12. Day 12 : Beach Morning, Accra City Tour, Last Minute Shopping, Drop-Off

    • Morning beach relax on your enticing beach socializing with the locals. 
    • Visit Kwame Nkrumah Monument, Independence Square, Makola Market, historic Jamestown, W.E.B. Du Bois Center, and fashionable Oxford Street in Osu.
