Know Before You Go

Georgia, being an Orthodox Christian country, has certain rules that visitors should adhere to when entering churches:

For Women:

Avoid wearing trousers, shorts, short skirts, or attire with bare shoulders. Instead, opt for a long skirt or wrap a large scarf around yourself. Many churches provide wraparound dresses for visitors to borrow.

Upon entering a church, it's customary for women to cover their heads with a scarf. Ensure you have 1 or 2 scarves with you to comply with this requirement and enjoy a worry-free experience in Georgian churches.

For Men:

Refrain from wearing shorts or clothing that exposes bare shoulders. Full-length trousers and attire that covers the shoulders are necessary for entry into churches. Otherwise, you may be denied entry or asked to wear a wraparound dress.

Remove any kind of hat before entering a church as wearing hats inside is not permitted.

Stalin House and Museum in Gori

Located in the city of Gori.

Houses the Stalin Museum.

Gori Fortress is situated in the city center, on the rocky hill of the Northern slope.

Remnants and archaeological data suggest its significance dating back to the last centuries of the first millennium.

The current parts of the fortress belong to the middle period of the XVII century.

Gori Fortress

First mentioned by the historian Juansher (11th century) in connection to 7th-century events.

Associated with Lord Stefanoz's son Archil, who dumped part of his treasure here, known as "Tontion" – the mountain of gold.

Uplistsikhe - Ancient Cave City and Museum

Identified by archaeologists as one of the oldest urban settlements in Georgia.

Located in the heartland of the ancient kingdom of Kartli (or Iberia).

Emerged as a major political and religious center of the country.

Medieval Georgian tradition attributes its foundation to the mythical figure Uplos, son of Mtskhetos, and grandson of Kartlos.

What To Bring

Women need scarves to enter churches (to cover their heads)

Jackets (it's windy), depending on the weather, may need a raincoat or an umbrella, some hats to get cover from the sun

Put on comfortable clothes and shoes for rock climbing
