Day 1: Milngavie (Glasgow) to Drymen (12 miles)
Trek through the parks of Milngavie into the countryside on gentle paths, with an opportunity to visit Glengoyne Distillery halfway.
Bed and Breakfast accommodation in Drymen.
-
Day 2: Drymen to Rowardennan (15 miles)
- Today takes us through Loch Lomond National Park.
- From Drymen, go through Garadhban forest, up onto Conic Hill with a traverse of the top (easily reached as a detour); the views over the loch on a clear day are stunning.
- Continue along the beautiful shores of Loch Lomond with a few more short ups and downs with more fine views before reaching Rowardennan.
Accom - Bunkhouse/Hostel in Rowardennan.
-
Day 3: Rowardennan to Inverarnan (14 miles)
- We continue along the banks of Loch Lomond, with sections being wonderfully close to the loch and interesting and varied terrain underfoot - a diverse and exciting section of the way.
Accom - Camping at Inverarnan - all facilities available.
-
Day 4: Inverarnan to Tyndrum (12 miles)
- This section takes us up through Glen Falloch with a steady incline initially and some ups and downs later; we pass the halfway point of the west highland way!
Accom - Hiker huts in Tyndrum.
-
Day 5: Tyndrum to Kingshouse (19 miles)
- Long day but on relatively easy tracks as we walk through the emotive surroundings of Rannoch Moor, majestic mountains and open vistas; this day gives you a feeling of entering deep into the Highlands!
Accom - Transfer by taxi to Hostel in Glencoe (glorious short drive through the Dramatic Glencoe valley with wonderful views of the mountains).
-
Day 6: Kingshouse to Kinlochleven (9 miles)
- Taxi back to Kingshouse for the start of this shorter day which, however, takes us dramatically over the Devils Staircase - a fair bit of ascent but a nice steady climb, with great panoramic mountain landscapes to be enjoyed on the way, descends into Kinlochleven.
Accom - Hiker Cabins in Kinlochleven.
-
Day 7: Kinlochleven to Fort William (15 miles)
- Final day of the way takes us through the Larig Mor with fine mountain views all around us, over to Glen Nevis with Ben Nevis, the highest mountain in the UK coming into dramatic view on a clear day. The way finishes over military roads and forest paths, then finally into Fort William to the West Highland way finish point. Short taxi ride to our accommodation.
Accom - Bunkhouse in Glen Nevis.
-
Day 8: (Optional) Ben Nevis Climb
- Option to climb Ben Nevis directly from our bunkhouse in Glen Nevis; 4409 feet/1344 meters above sea level and takes about 6-7 hours.
- Ben Nevis is the highest mountain in the UK, rising to 1344m (4409 ft), we're happy to guide you, weather permitting to the summit of this fantastic mountain at a small extra cost.
