Itinerary
-
Day 1: Nairobi
- Meet and transfer from Nairobi Airport to Jacaranda Hotel or similar, where you will be staying on a Bed and Breakfast basis.
- Depending on when you arrive, you will have the rest of the day to explore Nairobi at your own pace.
-
Day 2: Nairobi - Masai Mara
- Leave Nairobi after breakfast and arrive in Masai Mara in time for lunch at Mara Sarova Camp.
- After lunch, proceed on an afternoon game drive at the park. The Mara offers wildlife in such variety and abundance that it is difficult to believe: over 450 species of animals have been recorded here. It is in the Mara that perhaps the most spectacular event of the natural world takes place. This is the annual migration of millions of wildebeest and zebra from the Serengeti (Tanzania) in search of water and pasture. Following on their heels are the predators of the savanna- lion, cheetah, wild dog, jackal, hyena and vultures.
Dinner and overnight at AA Lodge Masai.
-
Day 3: Masai Mara National Reserve
- We will explore the Mara region from the camp, packed with the elephant, zebra, rhino and all kinds of game throughout the year, with the spectacular wildebeest migration from Serengeti occurring mainly in July and August. According to some authorities, being at Maasai Mara is "as if you found yourself in the New York of the natural world according to some authorities". Indeed you have the best opportunity of seeing all the big five.
Dinner and overnight at the AA Mara Lodge.
-
Day 4: Masai Mara National Reserve
- Enjoy a full day of game drives with a picnic lunch in the wild, with superb photographic opportunities to capture the stately black-manned lion, elephant and various plains game.
- You also have an opportunity to go on a spectacular optional balloon ride across the Maasai Mara. The balloon safari begins in the pre-dawn hours. The magnificent view of the park is thrilling
- Towards the end of the safari, you rise to a height of 1500 feet for a panoramic view of the twisting Mara River and the Savannah below.
- After an hour or so in the air, your safari finishes with a flourish: a champagne breakfast in the bush, cooked on the balloon's burners.
Please note that this is an optional extra, which can be arranged when booking this trip. A full refund will be given if the balloon trip is cancelled due to bad weather.
