Itinerary
-
Day 1- Nairobi - Ndarara
Depart from Nairobi, passing through the Great Rift Valley.
After descending 2,000 ft. to the valley floor studded with volcanic mountains, you begin to see an animal kingdom unrivaled anywhere else in Africa. Masai land is home to huge herds of plains game.
The route then takes visitors up onto the Mau Escarpment through the small trading town of Narok. There will be a stopover for 30 minutes in Narok, before heading South into forested Loita Hills close to the Tanzanian border.
Guests will be dropped off at Maji Moto (meaning 'hot waters' in Swahili), where a hot spring bubbles out of the earth at the foothills. A relaxing bath is a must while visiting Ndarara Mayatta for lunch.
Late in the evening, reach Ndarara Camp for dinner and overnight.
-
Day 2- Ndarara - Letukunyi
After breakfast, leave Ndarara for Letukunyi on a 5-6 hour walk through the scattered bushes.
Explore the beautiful Loita Hills in the Nguruman Escarpment through forests where guests can see striking black and white Columbus monkeys. Occasionally, one may see a leopard or bushbuck as they visit the many secret waterholes. There are also a variety of highland birds to see, such as the turaco, parrot, hornbill, starling, sunbird, and the birds of prey.
Dinner and overnight stay at Letukunyi camp.
-
Day 3- Letukunyi - Morijo
Leave Letukunyi Camp early in the morning for an enjoyable walk before the sun gets too hot.
Take a break in Narosura for lunch and to buy what might be out of stock.
After an hour or two in this remote town in Maasai land, proceed to Morijo for dinner.
Overnight stay at Morijo Campsite.
-
Day 4- Morijo - Enkutoto
After breakfast, leave Morijo and walk through few of the remaining true-forested wilderness areas in East Africa.
The walk will take 5-6 hours across the rolling highlands up to Osupuko, the summit of the Loita Hills (8,660 ft.) with incredible views, before descending to the camp. This is a favorite roost for velvet monkeys.
Walk through the forests and glades in search of Bohor reedbuck, East African eland, warthog, and the striking black and white Colombus monkeys.
Occasionally, one may see Bushbuck while walking to Enkutoto campsite.
-
Day 5- Enkutoto - Njoro
After breakfast, leave Enkutoto, walking leisurely for 4-5 hours to Njoro Campsite.
At the camp, enjoy an excellent view of the surrounding area consisting of Lake Magadi, Ngong hills, and Lake Natron. On a clear day, you can see all the way to the Tanzanian border.
Dinner and overnight at the Njoro campsite.
-
Day 6- Njoro - Nguruman - Nairobi
After breakfast, descend the escarpment, passing by small farms, to Nguruman town and transfer back to Nairobi via Lake Magadi.
