Itinerary

1. Mt. Longonot Hiking and Lake Naivasha Boating

   • 6:00 AM:  Depart from Nairobi and pass through the scenic Kikuyu lush green highlands and the eastern escarpment of the Rift Valley System to reach Mt. Longonot National Park.

   • 6:30 AM:  Make a scheduled stop at the Great Rift Valley viewpoint on the side of the escarpment to enjoy a bird's eye view of the valley. The Rift Valley is an active volcanic area and has many interesting features such as about 8 lakes, dormant and active volcanic mountains, and hot springs and geysers like the Olkaria geothermal wells and Lake Bogoria geysers. You can actually see the volcanic Mt Suswa and Mt Longonot from this high place with their evergreen craters and the undulating green Rift Valley floor. The view from there is breathtaking! Make sure to take as many photos from here as you can.
   • 7:00 am:  Arrive at Mt. Longonot National Park and get ready for a hike up to the crater. This stratovolcano is located southeast of Lake Naivasha in the Great Rift Valley. This hike requires medium physical fitness and you will climb through the gullies that dot the sides of this mountain. You can make some rest stops at the designated places on the trek. Once you reach the rim of the crater, look into the awesome crater below. If you have strength and courage left, go round the rim of the crater.

   • 12:00 pm:  Descend from Longonot Mountain and reach the park headquarters. Relax for some time and then drive to Lake Naivasha.

   • 1:00 pm:  Arrive at Marina camp and enjoy a scrumptious lunch at their lakeside restaurant while admiring stunning views and the variety of birds around you.

   • 2:30 pm:  Go for an hour-long boat ride in the wonderful Rift Valley lake. Witness hundreds of birds swarming around this lake including the diving African Fish Eagles which dive into the water to catch a fish and never miss. Also, visit the hippo pool and watch the hippos as they swim and bleat in the water body.

   • 4:00 pm: Depart from Lake Naivasha and arrive back in Nairobi at 5:30 pm. You will be dropped off at your Nairobi hotel.
