Description
Embark on a journey to climb the second-highest peak of Africa, Mount Kenya, an extinct volcano, estimated to be 2.5 million years old and take in the stunning views of the entire area from here. Tread through ecological hotspots, dense forests and pass the equator en-route. See hundreds of buffaloes, elephants, bushbucks and plenty of bird species at Old Moses Camp.
Itinerary

Day 1: Sirimon Gate - Old Moses Camp
Depart from Nairobi at 7 am along with your Mt. Kenya trekking guide to the western slopes of Mt. Kenya.
Stop in Nanyuki town for lunch (around 4 hours).
Get a full briefing and check your equipment before you begin the mountain trek.
Meet the crew at this point; each one will have a personal porter, and there are extra porters for mountain equipment and food. It takes about one hour to get to the Sirimon Park Gate (2600m).
Cross the equator en-route.
Upon completing park entry formalities, begin your 3-4 hour hike through forests, bamboo, rosewood and heather zones to Old Moses camp (3300m).
Ascend 740 m and begin to acclimatize truly. The forest and bamboo are home to hundreds of buffaloes, elephants, bushbucks, and many bird species.
Stay overnight in the Old Moses Camp, also known as Judmaier Camp (3340m).

Day 2: Old Moses Camp - Shipton’s Camp
After an early breakfast, commence a 7-8 hours trek to Shipton's camp (4,236m). Trek is long and interesting but also a good test on individual fitness.
Ascend close to 900 m going up the surreal Mackinder Valley with its strange giant lobelia and groundsel vegetation, unique to equatorial African mountains.
Stay at Shipton's hut (4236m), just below the glaciers and jagged peaks of bare rock surrounding the main summit.

Day 3: Shipton’s Camp - Point Lenana - Old Moses Camp
Begin predawn attempt of the summit at 3 am. You hike for about 3 hours up screes and a bare rocky track to reach the hikers' summit, Pt Lenana, at 4,985m in time to witness the African Sunrise as it reflects its golden glow on the Majestic peaks of Batian and Nelion over the equator at 6.30 am. Kilimanjaro is usually visible 340 km to the south on a clear day to add to the exhilaration.
Descend to Shipton’s camp for breakfast.
Continue the descent to Old Moses Camp (3340m), arriving in a further 4-5 hours.

Day 4: Old Moses - Sirimon Park Gate - Nairobi
After breakfast, descend through the rain forest to Sirimon Park Gate.
Sign out at the Sirimon Gate, board your vehicle and bid farewell to Mount Kenya as you are escorted back to Nanyuki and onwards to Nairobi.
