Description
A Walking safari is one of the best ways to get close to nature in Kenya and discover some of the details you can not experience on a jeep safari. Beginning with Hells Gate National Park, you will then climb to the peak of Mount Longonot. Other destinations on your journey will be Lake Naivasha, Noita Hills, and Masai Mara Reserve.
Itinerary
-
Day 1 : Nairobi - Naivasha - Hell's Gate
- After breakfast, depart on a pleasant drive to the Great Rift Valley floor.
- After a brief stopover at the viewpoint, continue to Hell’s Gate National Park, where you will spend the entire day hiking. Hike down the Njorowa gorge. The gorge that the park derives its name from is a product of the powerful volcanic activities that led to the Great Rift Valley formation.
- Discover some steaming volcanic vents and hot springs.
Dinner and Overnight at a Naivasha Camp
-
Day 2 : Mount Longonot - Lake Naivasha
- Drive to the base of Mount Longonot where you will set off on a hike up the mountain. The trek to the peak (2,800m above sea level) is about 9 km long, and some sections of the trail are quite steep. The round trip from the park gate to the peak and back takes about 5 hours of hiking. More energetic hikers can cover the hike to the crater for another 2 hours.
Dinner and Overnight at a Naivasha Camp
-
Day 3 : Naivasha - Loita Hills
- Embark on a morning boat ride to Crescent Island in Lake Naivasha for a game walk. Lake Naivasha is a freshwater lake in the Rift Valley, famed for its prolific birdlife, including fish eagles, pelicans and love birds. Hippos can also be spotted. It covers an area of 180 square km and an elevation of 1800m above sea level.
- The game walk will be on Crescent Island, a peninsula on Lake Naivasha's eastern shore that is a privately owned game sanctuary that hosts giraffes, waterbucks, elands, zebras and impalas. There are also several species of birds here. The walk is gentle and offers ample time to enjoy the beautiful natural surroundings.
- Return to board your safari vehicle for the drive to Loita.
- In the evening, visit the traditional Masai village accompanied by your Masai guide, who will tell you more about the local culture. (During the school term, you can opt to visit the local school to donate school supplies.)
