Day 4: Naivasha to Mara Game Reserve (222kms, 4½ hrs drive)
After breakfast, drive through the Great Rift Valley, the dramatic landscape and the plains inhabited by the Maasai pastoralists and across the ‘bread basket’ of Kenya covered with acres of wheat and barley.
Take a brief stop at Narok town for refuelling and then climb the western wall entering Hemingway’s country; “Serengeti Plains”. The Maasai Mara Game Reserve adjoins Tanzania’s Serengeti National Park and is reached in time for lunch at the Lodge/Camp.
At 4 pm, proceed for an evening game viewing drive in search of Black Manned Lions, Elephants, Leopards, Cheetahs, Buffalos and other plains game. The sighting of Rhino and Leopard cannot be guaranteed, and luck is a necessary factor as they are sparsely numbered, very shy and elusive.
At 6:30 pm, return for dinner and overnight at Mara Sopa Lodge/Manyatta Camp on FB Basis.
-
Day 5: Masai Mara Game Reserve
After breakfast at 7 am, start tracking the game with your safari guide in this Reserve which borders Tanzania’s Serengeti National Park as only an artificial border separates the two. The Masai Mara is renowned for staging the Great Migration, recently named the seventh wonder of the modern world.
Spend the full day game viewing across (from 0800-1600 hrs) the rich, tree-studded grassland and rolling hills. This reserve is the most visited Park in Kenya and the best for the game. It has an extensive road and track network, which allows excellent photography and close viewing opportunities.
Have a picnic lunch beside the Mara River as you watch Hippos and, with luck, Crocodiles on the Riverbanks and return to the Lodge at 4 pm.
After a short rest, visit a nearby Maasai village to see their nomadic lifestyle. (At an extra fee payable directly to the Maasai villagers – The Maasai are famous for their bravery, as they have co-existed with the animals over the years).
Rest of the evening is spent at leisure with dinner and overnight at Mara Sopa Lodge/Manyatta Camp on FB Basis.
-
Day 6: Masai Mara to Lake Nakuru National Park (292 kms, 5 ½ hrs drive)
After breakfast, we depart Mara for Lake Nakuru, arriving in time for lunch.
Later go for an evening game drive in this park dubbed ‘the greatest bird spectacle on earth due to the millions of Fuchsia - Pink Flamingos that flock to feed on the teeming algae of its alkaline waters. Lake Nakuru is also an Ornithologist’s Paradise. It has a uniquely rewarding game-viewing venue and a sanctuary for both the Black Rhino and the endangered White Rhino returning to Lake Nakuru.
Lodge/Golden Palace Resort for dinner and overnight on FB Basis.
-
Day 7: Lake Nakuru National Park to Nairobi
After breakfast, go for a game drive in this park which offers an incredible 450 different birds, which are water, fish-eating, terrestrial and migratory birds to include Pelican, Fish Eagle, Secretary Bird, Heron, Egret, Hammerkop and Grebe.
Depart Mara for Nairobi with lunch en route.
In the afternoon, go on a free city tour of Nairobi city.
We recommend a farewell dinner at the Carnivore, justifiably referred to as ‘Africa's Greatest Eating Experience’, for some succulent stew and barbecue dishes of game meat as an excellent complement to a holiday in Kenya.
Later, transfer to the airport for your flight home.
End of services.
