Itinerary

Day 1: Pick Up at Airport and Axum Sightseeing
- You will be picked up at the airport at 9:55 AM. It will be a day of the city tour where you will be able to see Axum. The old and historical town of Axum has its tourism heritage.
- During your day of stay in Axum, you will start the sightseeing that morning at the places listed below:
- The main (northern) stelae field (the Obelisks)
- Queen Sheba’s swimming pool
- Ezana inscription (from the 4th century)
- King Kaleb and King Gebremekle tomb
- Queen Sheba’s ruins palace
- St. Mary of Zion church (Where the ark of the covenant is), the Monastery church of St. Mary of Zion

Day 2: Market Tour and Drive to Yeha Temple
- In the morning after breakfast, you will go to colorful basket market under the biggest fig tree. It is the only basket market that takes place every Saturday.
- Then you will go to the whole market where locals exchange their goods coming from the countryside. You will feel a market that has a sense to the people.
- Then in the afternoon, drive for 55 Km to visit Yeha temple, the oldest town in the history of East Africa. It likely served as the capital of the pre-Aksumite kingdom of Da’amat.
- On the way, you will pass through the chained Adwa Mountains where the battle of Adwa took place.
- Then, you will return back to Axum in the late afternoon.

Day 3: Discover Tigray Churches
- In the morning after checking out from the hotel, drive for about 3 hours to reach Abune Yemata Guh Monastery Church. It will take 50 minutes of hiking and climbing. This church has the most challenging climbing compared to the others and it is the most beautiful church of all the Tigray churches because of its height and its location.
- As optional, after arriving in Hawzen, drive to the nearest point where the hiking begins to Maryam Korkor and Daniel Korkor monastery churches, it takes about 90 minutes or 1:30 hour. This is the church with the greatest view and has amazing view spots but a bit challenging too.
Note: you can choose what to do from either of the churches on your day 3 overnight in Hawzen.

Day 4: Wukro Cherkos Church, Al-Negash’s Mosque, and drop off to the Airport
- In the morning check out from the hotel and drive from Hawzen town to Tigray churches.
- On the way, visit Wukro Cherkos Monastery Church from the 13th century and Al-Negash’s Mosque, the oldest mosque here in Ethiopia that receives Muslims.
- After lunch break in Mekelle drive to Mekelle Airport to get the flight back to Addis.
Stay overnight in Addis.
