Itinerary
-
Day 1 : Head to Aswan
Pick up from the hotel in Marsa Alam.
Transfer to Aswan (4H30 minutes drive in a modern air-conditioned van) to visit the Philae Temple dedicated to goddess Isis. This temple was dismantled and reconstructed on Agilika Island, after the construction of Aswan High Dam.
Continue the Aswan tour with a visit to the Unfinished Obelisk which belongs to an unknown pharaoh. It offers unusual insights into ancient Egyptian stone-working techniques - marks from workers' tools and ocher-colored guiding lines are still clearly visible on the obelisk.
Lunch at a local restaurant in Aswan.
Move on to visit the High Dam, which was constructed in 1960-70 to protect Egypt from the annual floods as well as store water for agriculture.
Drive to your hotel for check-in.
Free time in Aswan, with an optional evening tour to attend the spectacular Sound and Light show at Philae temple.
Overnight stay in Aswan.

Day 2 : Abu Simbel Tour
Leave the hotel in the morning, and head to Abu Simbel (3 hours drive from Aswan).
Visit the great sun temple of Ramses II and the temple of Queen Nefertari. When both these temples were discovered in 1813, they were almost completely covered in sand. In 1960, with the help of the Egyptian government and UNESCO, the temples were moved from their original site to avoid the rising water of the Nile. Ramses II built the temple mostly to honor himself and it houses a mural depicting his famous victory at Qadesh battle. To the north of Ramses temple, is the Nefertari Temple which was built by Ramses II for his favorite wife and queen Nefertari.
After the tour of Abu Simbel, head to Aswan.
Walking tour of Aswan.
By 6 o'clock in the evening, head back to the hotel in Marsa Alam.
