Head into central Cairo today to learn more about Pharaonic history at the Egyptian Museum.

Other visits include the mosques and palaces in the Citadel, the ancient churches of Coptic Cairo, and the busy shopping streets of the Khan el-Khalili bazaar.

In the evening, transfer to the station for the overnight sleeper train to Luxor. Flight upgrades are available.

After arriving in Luxor, your first tour is to the huge temple complex at Karnak.

Reach the Dahabiya and settle in. The afternoon is free to relax and explore Luxor further.

In the evening, visit Luxor Temple before enjoying your first of many special meals on board.

Head across the Nile and explore several sites on the West Bank, including the Pharaonic tombs in the Valley of the Kings, the temples of Queen Hatshepsut and Medinat Habu, and the Colossi of Memnon.

• Optional: Visit the Ramesseum, Workers Village, Valley of the Queens, and other sites on the West Bank if you wish. You also have the option of a very special early morning hot air balloon flight.

After leaving Luxor, begin sailing towards Esna.

While here, visit Esna town and the Temple of Khnum.

The evening is spent on board in Esna.

Continue south along the Nile to Edfu, passing the El Kab Tombs, which date back to the 18th Dynasty.

After arriving in Edfu, enjoy a guided tour of the Temple of Horus, one of the best-preserved temples in Egypt.

Head for Kom Ombo Temple, and along the way, stop to enjoy a BBQ lunch beside Al Ramady Island.

While sailing, pass the Silesia Temple and the sandstone quarries.

Begin with an extensive tour of Kom Ombo Temple, which was dedicated to the gods Sobek and Haroreris.

Continue sailing towards Aswan and enjoy a BBQ lunch on Herdiab Island.

Sail on to an island outside Aswan.

Continue sailing to Aswan and enjoy a full day of sightseeing, including visits to the High Dam, the Unfinished Obelisk, and Philae Temple.

After lunch on board, visit the Nubian Museum in the afternoon.

You have the option of joining the early morning convoy to Abu Simbel, the amazing reclaimed temple of Ramses the Great.

If you choose not to visit Abu Simbel, you will have some free time to explore Aswan.

In the afternoon, enjoy a felucca trip to Elephantine Island.

In the evening, board the overnight sleeper train to Cairo.

Arrive back in Cairo in the morning, and the rest of the day is free for you to explore the city further.
