Itinerary for Alexandria Day Trip from Cairo
Early Morning Departure
- Pick up from your hotel in Cairo in a private, air-conditioned vehicle for a scenic drive to Alexandria, located 240 km to the west.
Stop 1: Qaitbay Fort
- Visit Qaitbay Fort, a medieval structure built in the late 15th century by Sultan Qa'it Bay. The fort is located on the site of the ancient Lighthouse of Alexandria, using some of the stones from the collapsed lighthouse after the 14th-century earthquake.
Stop 2: The Catacombs of Kom El-Shouqafa
- Explore the Catacombs of Kom El-Shouqafa, dating back to the Roman period. This multi-level labyrinth offers a glimpse into ancient burial practices with niches (loculi) for urns, sarcophagi, funerary gardens, and commemorative monuments.
Stop 3: Pompey’s Pillar and the Serapeum
- Visit Pompey’s Pillar, a 15-meter-high granite column dating back to the reign of Roman Emperor Diocletian. It stands within the ruins of the Serapeum, a temple built by Ptolemy I dedicated to the bull god Apis.
