Scenic Santiago Island Discovery

  • Pick-up in the morning at your accommodation and departure for the interior of Santiago Island. As the largest island of Cabo Verde, it takes a full-day tour to explore and experience the best of it, with plenty of cultural and historical places to visit. It is the best way to discover the entire island.
  • Our first stop will be in São Domingos City to visit a small garden called "Eco Centro", a perfect place for fauna and flora lovers. We will continue with a short stop in Orgãos and Picos City to admire two impressive mountains symbolising those cities.
  • We then move on to Assomada, the second-largest and most developed city on the island after Praia. The city has many tourist attractions to visit, such as its two famous markets and the museum.
  • It also has one of the most beautiful churches in the country. You will visit the small village of Boa Entrada, a green valley with many fruit plants.
  • You will then be taken to a small park with the biggest and oldest tree in Cabo Verde, the Kapok tree, which is over 700 years old.
  • Our next stop will be Serra Malagueta Natural Park, where the incredible view comes from its altitude of 1,000 meters. We then continue to the most touristic city on the island, Tarrafal City. It has the most beautiful beach on the island, with white sand. You will have a break here, during which you can have lunch and swim.
  • After lunch, we will drive back, this time along the wonderful east coast, stopping at the village of Rabelados - rebels who resisted the Portuguese colonizer in 1941. The houses are built from coconut tree trunks and ropes made with fibres of sisal and intertwined coconut leaves.
  • We then move on to Calheta, a small city on the east coast where the locals depend on fishing, making it the perfect place to connect with local people.
  • Drive on to Pedra Badejo, a city famous for having the largest banana and coconut plantation in Cabo Verde. Enjoy a 15-minute hike on the plantation before the tour ends with drop-off at your accommodation.

The largest island in the archipelago and the first to be populated, Santiago is rich in history and culture and is known for its lively nightlife.
