Visit Azerbaijan's historical Ethnographic Reserve with your Azerbaijani tour guide and explore the ancient village of Gala. In the village, there are 243 monuments of architecture and archaeology, from the prehistoric man of the Bronze Age (3000 BC.) to the surviving mosques, baths, and premises belonging to the late Middle Ages. Covering an area of 156 hectares, the preserve contains burial mounds, crypts, dwelling houses as well as 4 storage pools, ruins of an ancient palace, 5 mosques and 3 bath-houses dating back to a period between 3rd Millennium BC and 20th century.
Check out Ateshgah, an ancient Zoroastrian temple of flame built by the Indian fire-worshippers community back in the 17-18th centuries. In the middle of the courtyard sits an altar, the centrepiece of the temple where fire rituals were observed. The altar is situated right above the natural gas vent, igniting a large flame in the middle.
Stop by Yanardag (“Burning Mountain”), a hill located on the top of the natural gas pocket with continuous flame eruption. Most probably the fire has been burning for over 20,000 years at Yanardag.
