Description

'Khor Virap' translates to 'deep dungeon'; this monastery was built as the former royal prison in the palace located at Artashat. It is the site where Gregor the Illuminator, the first Armenian Catholic responsible for Christianity's diaspora in Armenia, was incarcerated.
