10-Hour Karavasta Lagoon Day Tour
- We will start the tour toward Karavasta National Park. The park is bordered by the Shkumbin river in the north, by the Divjaka hills in the east, by the Seman river in the south and by the Adriatic Sea in the western part of it; Divjaka – Karavasta national park is characterized by its forest with typical flowers which grow in the country, Mediterranean pines and dense bushes. The most important feature of it is the existence of many natural habitats and the biodiversity of flora and fauna. These habitats serve as shelters for many waterfowl, which are very rare in Albania. The lagoon of Karavasta shelters the Dalmatian Pelican, which in this area represents about 5 percent of the total number of this specie on a world scale.
- Only a 20-minute drive from Fier is the Ardenica hills, famous for the Monastery of the Nativity of the Theotokos and many breathtaking landscapes. A pagan temple dedicated to the goddess Artemis existed where the Monastery sits now, which explains the origin of the name Ardenica. The most interesting historical event recorded in Ardenica is Skanderbeg’s wedding to his lifelong wife Donika, hosted in April of 1451 at the Chapel of St. Trinity Church, the Monastery’s very first church, built in the 10th century.
