Around Mogok, there are pine trees and other evergreen forests are growing naturally. The population is about 200000 and mostly Burmese, Shan, Lisu, Palaung, India, Chinese, Chin, and Nepalese. Most people are believed in Buddhism but some are Christian, Hinduism and Muslim. Most famous pagodas are Chan Thar Gyi, Phaung Daw Oo, Shwe Gu Gyi, Daw Nan Kyint Taung and Kyauk Pyathat. More interesting sites are five days one market at Bernard Village and English Cemetery.
Mogok is very charming and colourful town with natural beauty and diverse racial tribes. Mogok is producing world best quality, Ruby and Sapphire. Therefore, it is one of the most interesting tourist attractions for international travellers worldwide. Moreover, besides it, Spinel, Moonstone, Peridot, Danburite, Diopside, Alexandrite, Zircon, Garnet, Quartz, Amethyst, Aquamarine, Tourmaline, Apatite and Painite and Topaz. Almost all residents in Mogok work precious stone digging, polishing, cutting and selling. Some residents find gemstones for living and hand to mouth at the villages. They cut and polish gemstones by hand without using machines. Then, they sell the stones in the gem-stone markets locally called Htar Pwe. These markets are opened with different time duration. There are many stone-polishing and cutting workshops using modern machines. About 1000 gemstone mine can be found.
Stone painting can be seen as a family business at the local houses. Some precious stones are needed to bake by fire to be brighter and colourful. It can be learned at one local house. Hotels and are very nice to stay for foreign travellers. Local restaurants serving authentic local foods are very good and clean.
