Every year, travelers who visit Nepal hit the Everest trail for adventure treks and mountaineering attempts. Everest Base Camp is a wildly sought-after trekking destination in Nepal. The basic attractions of the place include walking through rivers, gorges, glaciers, glacial lakes, peaks, high passes, pristine villages and monasteries.

Travelling to Everest Base camp usually starts from Kathmandu. At the beginning, we should dare to get in to a small plane so as to land at one of the smallest airport with a very short runway at Lukla. Even better, to fly in and land at Lukla itself is an adventure itself.

Declared a World Heritage Site in 1979, the areas around Everest are under protection as a national park. The park is home to a huge variety and number of rare plants and animals, the most prominent ones being Impeyan pheasant (the national bird of Nepal) and musk deer. At the same time, Everest region harbors also a lot of rife and rumors about the yeti legend and numerous researchers from time to time have toiled in different villages and hamlets for the same.

In the past, all treks to Everest started or originated from Jiri. After the construction of an airport at Lukla, however, it is now customary to start all Everest treks and expeditions from Lukla. Further along the way lies Namche, the magical entrance to Mount Everest/Everest Base camp. With the vitality it has, Namche is undoubtedly the melting-pot of Solukhumbu. In addition, Everest region has also numerous Sherpa villages and monasteries that still preserve their centuries-old culture. Tengboche Monastery is perhaps one of the finest examples of their legacy here.
