Being a Traveller in COVID Days

We can count these days as very new for our generation. In the 1900s, people experienced and suffered from world wars, the Spanish flu...etc., but after the new millennium began, our biggest disaster was 9/11. And now we are experiencing a very different type of disaster - Covid 19. All the authorities suggested that we stay home, and most of us followed these directives. Still, after a couple of months, we hoped that travel would resume again. But COVID-19 shows no sign of stopping. That makes us think that we will have to get used to living with this virus. So how can we travel while having some official restrictions, especially in Turkey?

  • In Turkey, travellers from the majority of Western countries are welcome.

  • People are always asked to wear masks outside. If anyone doesn't wear a mask, police officers or the public warn them immediately.

  • The government has developed an application for mobiles. With that application, they monitor everyone who is at risk. Plus, the app helps keep track of the travellers.

  • Restaurants and cafes can only have take-away and delivery services available.

  • Public Transportation is always running.

  • There is a lockdown on holidays for locals. Tourists are free to stroll in the empty streets or museums of Istanbul.

Travelling is not a luxury habit; we must travel to develop our behaviour. We might postpone travelling for this temporary period, but you might miss one of the biggest chances to explore the city of ISTANBUL without locals.
