The "windy" Cape Town.

Doing the Peninsula trip with guests and winds at speed 55km/h is not only not so pleasant but quite challenging as well, especially going up to the light house at Cape Point. The tip of the Peninsula is exposed, so the full force of the wind is experienced there. This is the second trip experience for me in these conditions. Nevertheless, we made it and my guests are glad they were there.

This time I had some local Afrikaans speaking people with me from up country and it was nice for a change to do the tour in my own language. The couple brought their 4 year old grandson with and we had lots of laughter at times for the cute and funny stuff he comes up with. On the way back from Cape Point we saw a fire starting on the slopes of the twelve apostles on the Hout Bay side of Table Mountain. It was close to the main road but not threatening at the time. Later back in Cape Town we heard on the radio that the road were closed to traffic and that meant people had to drive a long way around Table Mountain if they were on their way to Cape Town. I was so glad we got through before the road was closed.

The following day I took them on the West Coast Tour. This day was not so windy but it was another hot day. It was especially hot at the Fossil Park inside the excavation area which is under cover to protect the fossil pieces from the elements. From there we went to Langebaan for lunch and we spent the afternoon inside the West Coast National Park. A lot of tortoises were in the road or crossing it and I had to be careful not to drive over them. It is mating season for the tortoises, so they do not care much for traffic or anyone else. We saw some antelope, ostriches and rock dassies as well.

On the way back to Cape Town, we were just in time to enjoy some freshly baked bread from a farm stall before they closed for the day. The bread just came out of the oven as the butter melted on it while eating. Back in Cape Town it was raining and we all enjoyed coffee before I took then to their guest house.
