The most famous landmarks of Saint Petersburg are:

St Isaac’s Cathedral

  • We’ll start at this place. It’s the 4th cupola (dome) cathedral in the World and the biggest one in Russia. Imagine only on decorations we spent more than 300 kilograms of pure gold. If it doesn’t impress, you just climb to the colonnade walkway and you will see the most beautiful view of the city from this point. Wednesday is a day off. You will need 30 minutes there.

Bronze Horseman

  • This monument is dedicated to Peter the Great (the founder of St Petersburg); he was one of the greatest rulers in our history and every emperor after he wanted to show his connection to this legendary person. This monument was built there by the order of Catherine the Great and it was her way of showing her connection to this powerful person.

Peter and Paul Fortress

  • If you look at the opposite side of the river, you will see a golden spire - this is Peter and Paul Fortress, the first building of our city. It was built by Swiss-Italian architect  Domenico Trezzini in 1703. It was built as a fortress but practically it became a political prison from the very beginning. On the territory of the fortress, there is Peter and Paul Cathedral that is a tomb of all Romanov; you should have noticed an angel on the spire, imagine it’s 2 meters high. As this is a walking tour, it will take you a lot of time to get to the fortress that’s why we recommend looking at it from the outside. Still, if you want to visit it, the territory works from 6 am to 10 pm.

Admiralty and Alexander garden

Location: Admirakteyskiy lane 1

  • St Petersburg, first of all, is a seaport and we needed someplace to build new ships. Admiralty served to this purpose, there is a legend that says Peter The Great himself draw the project of this building. Nowadays it’s a General Command of Russian Navy. At the top, you may see a small golden ship that is considered to be one of the symbols of our city. Alexander Garden lays in front of Admiralty; locals love to spend their free time there near fountains on benches with ice cream and a book.

Palace Square and the Hermitage Museum

  • This architectural ensemble was formed more than 2 centuries ago. Alexander column, General Staff Building and Winter Palace make this square the main one in our city. Beautiful fact (and we are proud): Palace square is 2 times bigger than the Red Square in Moscow.
